Little star's favorite
It all started when Talia came to Gotham with a gift.
The gift in question was a twelve year old boy.
Bruce stared at the boy who was almost the exact replica of Damian if not for the blue eyes and longer hair. He looked utterly perplexed at the sight of Bruce, tilting his head before frowning at his mother with a visibly displeased look.
"Beloved, may I introduce you to Danyal, our Damian's twin brother. He was... Away... On a mission until recently." Talia hummed, a hand on Danyal's back.
"You... You didn't think to tell me about him when you told me about Damian?" Shutting his eyes and pinching the bridge of his nose. He looked down at the boy who looked a little more like him than Talia and felt himself softening. "Hello Danyal."
"Hello."
Talia smiled, before her expression fell. "A little warning, beloved. The twins do not get along. Damian is quite the competitive child and Danyal... Well, he's the nicer one if I must say." She shrugged, running her fingers through her son's hair before pressing a kiss to his forehead. "Go on now, Najmi As-Sagheer (my little star)."
"Ummi... Must I join them? I am perfectly fine with remaining in the league." Danyal muttered, eye twitching but his expression was quickly schooled into neutrality.
"Yes, Danyal." She sighed, "I have no intention of letting father keep you."
Bruce raised a brow at her words.
"That is a conversation for another time, habibi." Talia lazily insisted, gently pushing Danyal towards Bruce.
Bruce, for all he's lived, immediately recognized a feral cat in the form a child. Yep. Another Damian. That was seemingly the nicer one.
But he was scruffy little thing who was being called little star by his mother. Bruce blinked, offering his hand to Danyal (like how a person would do by letting a cat sniff his hand to see if they were safe).
Danyal, more twitchy and annoyed than his brother, looked at the hand like it had personally offended him.
And that is how Batman brought home another child while holding him by the scruff.
(Danny hated everyone except for Alfred—both cat and butler)
Tumblr media
Danyal was a much quieter person compared to Damian. Unlike his brother who had practically came into their lives guns blazing and declaring that he was the rightful heir to the bat, Danyal mainly ignored them. He would glare, snarl, and scowl, but not in the way Damian did. The kid was obviously threatened by them, but more for his own safety rather than inheritance.
He avoided them like the plague, only welcoming the company of Alfred and occasionally Cass.
He didn't join in on the vigilante business, opting to stay back with Oracle and just quietly direct them on their missions. It was strange in all honesty.
They didn't know much about Danyal, aside from the fact that his mother called him little star for his natural love of space. That he liked to tinker with gadgets and make his own weapons. That he really liked fudge.
Aside from that, the kid was quiet and was usually hiding out in his room.
Tim wasn't particularly thrilled to have another demon brat in the family. He avoided Danyal as much as possible expecting for the boy to be just like his brother and attack him.
But apparently not.
It's one of those unfortunate times that Tim's sleep deprivation and overload on energy drinks gets him benched by Alfred and not Bruce. No one particularly wanted to argue with their beloved butler/grandpa so Tim was stuck in place. It was a much quieter night than usual, almost peaceful (as much as Gotham can get).
Babs was relieved of her duties to have a night off, rest and relax and such, while Tim manned the bat computer in Oracle's place. He almost didn't notice the mop of black hair that suddenly appeared beside him.
Tim didn't want to admit it, but he flinched at Danyal's presence and how he was quietly standing there with a tray of coffee and cookies. Blue eyes blinked at him, silently pushing the tray forward to offer Tim the lone cup (most likely for him) and the plate of cookies.
Suspicious, Tim narrowed his eyes. "Alfred wouldn't make me coffee after benching me for this kind of thing."
Danyal shrugged, "Made it myself. Thought you'd need it since the others will be gone for a while."
"That's poisoned."
"It's not." Danyal frowned, immediately taking the cup and taking a couple sips himself before once again offering it to Tim.
Now, Tim wasn't stupid enough to ignore the possibility of Danyal having some tolerance to poison. But Tim was also tolerant to a lot of poisons so might as well.
When taking one sip, he was already feeling weird. One, there was no poison. Two, it was actually pretty good.
Danyal just sat there and stared at the screen, munching on cookies and pointing at the screen whenever Robin started to stray from the patrol route. Tim had a lot of fun reportingtattling to Bruce about it.
Eventually, it became a routine.
Danyal always sat beside Tim. Quiet and just offering random stuff, either food, some little gadget he made, or just the most bizarre stuff he found while at school.
Tim learned many things about his weird little brother. How cameras go crazy around him. How he had his reasons for not being touched. How Danyal was more silent than Cass. How Danyal vanished and reappeared at times.
(The glowing green eyes were the most concerning.)
He never really took notice of how Danyal started to gravitate to him. Always with him, barely without.
(Tim refused to admit that he was just the same.)
"Can I go on patrol with you?" Danyal asked, tugging at his Red Robin suit with a curious look. "I wanna meet Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn."
And Tim didn't really see much of a problem with that. Danyal was a highly trained assassin that Ra's apparently trusted to go on a solo mission while Damian had to be whisked away from the league. It wasn't too absurd for Tim to just shrug and let his kid brother tag along.
He was also very sure that his baby brother was an eldritch being with how the shadows seemed to rise around him. Yeah, the baby was a cryptid amongst a family of supposed cryptids. Very fitting.
It's a nice night. With Danny running amok with Tim, clearly having fun. But that one looks of sadness didn't escape Tim when Danny paused and looked to the sky with longing.
Tim remembers how Danny rambled about the stars in their shared moments, where it's just them.
Tim remembers how Danny would describe the sky in Nanda Parbar and how he often snuck out just to see it.
Tim remembers how much his little brother likes space and turns to the cloudy sky of Gotham that hides the stars.
Tim remembers how he was often depraved of the brotherly love he wanted. How he didn't get the full experience of having an older brother.
"You okay, little star?"
Danyal snapped his head towards Tim, eyes blown wide and flashing green (he knows that wasn't normal but he ignores that in favor to the way Danyal visibly softens at the nickname).
"'m okay, akhi." Danyal muttered, following after Tim after adjusting his own hood.
And it's like his heart stops.
Yep.
Tim has had Danyal for barely a year and he was willing to throw hands with Ra's, Talia, and Bruce for him.
"C'mon, qalbi(my heart). Batburger's still open."
He barely noticed the shift after that. But others think it's a glaring change that often made them stop and stare.
Danyal went to Tim whenever he needed anything.
If Danyal wasn't in bed, you'd find him snuggled up to Tim.
Danyal hated it when people touched him... Except for Tim.
Danyal liked Tim the most.
The day Dick thought it was a good idea to call Danyal 'Danny' (a nickname that was only used by Tim and Alfred), he almost got stabbed. Well, that's where all the stabbiness went to.
Safe to say, Tim was Danny's favorite.
And Danny was Tim's.
Tumblr media
"Drake! What have you done to my brother?!" Damian pointed a katana at Tim, who lazily glanced his way before turning back to Danny who was comfortably snuggled up to him and watching Blue while Tim scrolled on Tiktok.
"I haven't done anything to Danny, demon brat. Now shoo!" Tim's irritation could be heard from a mile away, shamelessly shooing Damian away with a flick of his wrist. Then the next second, he was combing his fingers through Danny's hair and listening to his younger brother make a purring noise.
(Another point of investigation because that is not fucking normal, Tim. Cute though!)
"I refuse to believe that Danyal would prefer you over me!"
"You're just salty that he stabs you like you stab me." Tim waved him off again, watching as Danny yawned and continued to ignore everyone else.
The click of a camera immediately alerts him and he's tugging Danny down before the much younger boy lunges at Dick.
"Woah! What's up with him?" Dick nervously asked, instinctively raising his phone above his head.
"Delete that!" Tim snarled, pulling Danny closer and guiding his brothers face to his shoulder. "You know he hates it when people take pictures without consent!"
(Tim doesn't tell them that something goes every wrong with the footage if Danny was ever in the picture.)
"Dick." Tim warned, effortlessly picking up Danny, because yes, his seemingly cryptid baby brother could become weightless, and snatched Dick's phone. Yep. Instead of Danny, there was a very strange figure, a glitching silhouette of black and green. He deletes it immediately.
Dick was pouring, "I don't have any pics of Danny—"
"Don't call me that, Richard." Danny scowled, clinging to Tim like a koala. He was strangely more child-like than Damian, muttering about annoying people who interrupted bonding time. (Dick was just forced to pout.)
"Danyal." Damian crossed his arms, scowling at Danny who was still comfortably cuddled up to Tim. "It is not appropriate to cling to Drake in such a way! You will embarrass our mother and father if you are seen acting like a petulant child!"
Tim wanted to argue that no, he wouldn't embarrass Talia and Bruce by being a kid, but Danny just grabbed a cookie from nowhere (note to self, add possible teleportation powers to cryptid baby) and shoved it into his mouth.
Danny just yawned, fixing Damian with a lazy glare.
"Tuhali, can you shut up?"
Damian stood stock still, while Jason and Bruce choked on their own spit. Jason slapping a hand over his mouth and Bruce just staring at his twins like the apocalypse was about to return.
"What did you just call me?"
Danny yawne again, "My spleen."
Tim knew what Tuhali meant. Of course he fucking knew Arabic! But to think that his cryptid baby brother was straight up calling Damian his spleen?
The spleen that Tim doesn't have.
The spleen that's important to the immune system but you can survive without it?
Tim grinned, grabbing his cryptid baby and made a run for it.
Yep.
Danny was definitely his favorite.

Well, reader and Jinx matching rings (maybe even wedding rings), and when Caitlin shoots Jinx's finger, she destroys this ring. Jinx’s honest reaction?
Tumblr media
of course! thank you for the request <3
i decided to make them promise rings since she lost her middle finger. i hope that’s alright!
summary; jinx’s promise ring being destroyed, and fem!reader comforting her after the fact.
characters included; jinx
tags/warnings; fluff, hurt/comfort, mentions of war/combat, mentions of poor mental health, medical talk ig? (patching up), s2 spoilers
men dni.
you’re sat in jinx’s hideout watching her tinker away with… something. a new type of explosive she’s experimenting with, she says. something that only requires one hexcrystal instead of two or three, since she can’t keep using so many. she’s unceremoniously hunched over the workbench, goggles over her eyes as she messes with the piece of scrap metal in her hand.
“having fun?”
you ask, sitting back in the chair she got you.
“mm… this is more difficult than i thought it would be. who knew this could be so challenging? but i like a challenge.”
she smirks to herself, not taking her eyes off of her project.
“well, you’ve never let ‘difficult’ stop you. you’re a right genius.”
“oh, stop. you’re biased!”
she teases, but she’s got the lightest rouge dusting her cheeks. got her. your gaze continues to follow your girlfriend, the way she moves so freely and carelessly. getting her face impossibly close to power tools, using her nails to clean up dirt, teeth capturing her bottom lip when she’s particularly stumped.
“alright! that’s enough for right now.”
she proclaims, standing up and placing her hands on her hips.
“already?” it couldn’t have been more than fifteen minutes since you asked her how she was doing.
“yeah! besides, i’ve got something for ‘ya.”
jinx springs up from her seat and skitters over to yours, quickly turning it around. you hear cheerful humming from behind you as she shuffles through piles of belongings, clearly looking for something.
"a-ha!"
she spins you back around, both hands on your seat and quickly rises. she's got something clasped in her left hand, but won't reveal it, not yet.
"what's that?"
"you have to be patient, toots! i've got a speech prepared, don't distract me!"
a speech? jinx never gave speeches. was she breaking up with you? so many thoughts began swirling through your mind as your palms began to sweat, gripping the chair- and then jinx revealed what she was hiding. a wooden box. a... ring box?
"isn't it a little soon to be getting engaged, jinx?"
you chuckle dryly, looking up at your girlfriend. she playfully rolls her eyes, and shakes her head, blue bang swaying.
"yes it is, that's why we're not getting engaged."
she clears her throat.
"not yet."
she turns her attention back to the box, and she opens it. inside lays a thick silver ring, with a circular blue gem in the middle. it looked eerily similar to a hexcrystal- but carved into a gemstone. 'JINX' is shakily engraved on the inside, something she undoubtedly did herself.
"this is a promise ring. i've been working on it for a while, and well... it's kind of stupid." she looks off to the side, sheepishly. "but this is me promising myself to you. to show you that i'm serious about this, ya know?"
you look over the ring for a moment, taking it in for all that it is. it's obviously unprofessional, the metal is a bit dull, and the shape isn't precise. but god dammit if it isn't the most beautiful thing you've ever seen. you glance back to your girlfriend, noticing her observing you- likely for any signs of disapproval. poor girl. as much as jinx had improved since meeting you, she still had the habit of expecting the worst. you didn't think that part would ever go away.
"jinx, it's beautiful. i- you made this?"
you ask, your eyes flickering back to the ring she's holding out. noticing how her grip is becoming a bit less stable.
"with my own two hands."
you chuckle, giving her a little grin.
"well? come on, put it on."
jinx doesn't need to be told twice. she gently takes hold of your left hand, removing the ring from the box and slowly slipping it onto your finger.
"there! it's on your middle finger, so your ring finger is open for the real thing."
not an ‘i do,’ but an ‘i will.’
you hold your hand up to the light, admiring how the ring catches it, before leaning forward to press a flurry of kisses to jinx's face.
"ah- hey! stop, you goof!"
she laughs, arms coming to wrap around you as a fit of giggles erupts from her.
"nope! i get to do this!"
it's not a week later when you arrive to jinx's hideout with a promise ring of your own to give her. a thick gold band to contrast the silver jinx had given you, with a rose quartz to accompany your own hexcrystal. pink and blue… she had a theme going, didn't she?
it wasn't handmade, but held the same sentimental value. you weren't as handy as jinx, and you'd learned to accept that a while ago. you had strengths in other areas, one of them being finding perfect gifts. it didn't take you long to find a jeweler in piltover who had exactly what you needed.
"oh, my god- you didn't have to do this."
she gasps, rosy eyes blown wide. both hands are on her cheeks as jinx gently approaches the open box in your hand.
"you promised yourself to me, didn't you? this is my promise to you."
jinx lets you put the ring onto her own left middle finger, her eyes never leaving your face. watching you so intently, she can feel her heart fluttering in her chest. what did she do to deserve you exactly? she could never quite figure it out, but that doesn't matter right now. you glance back up at her, a little smile tugging at the corner of your lips.
"i… you're too good to me, toots. really."
"i am not. i love you, remember?"
"mm… i love you too. i still think you're too good to me, though."
you let out a low chuckle.
"c'mere."
you bring the girl into your arms, tilting her chin with your index finger to gently bring her closer to you. pressing your lips to hers in a slow, gentle kiss.
oh- and of course, your name is engraved on the inside of the ring.
✧.*
you're posted at your girlfriend's hideout, going over notes in preparation for an exam. it's nerve wracking, sure, but the odd tranquility of jinx's desk is useful in its own way.
jinx swings open the door to the hideout, and as soon as she steps onto the panel of the wind turbine supporting her hideout, you can tell she's in hysterics.
the girl is wailing. she's pacing back and forth, her breath coming in short, ragged gasps. but most importantly, her hand is gushing blood. you immediately drop your notes, papers scattering across the desk to rush over to your girlfriend.
"jinx? jinx?! what the hell happened, oh my god..."
you kneel down in front of jinx, taking her hand to examine it. her middle left finger is completely gone, blood rushing out from the wound. it seems to be a clean cut, at least, you won't have to deal with any extra bits to clean up.
"the ring, the ring, it's gone-"
she sobs, a hiccup following and her free hand clenching into a fist at her side. you gasp, looking up at jinx, then back down at her finger.
"jinx, seriously? you just lost your finger and you're worried about a damn ring?!"
you breathe out, exasperation and worry weighing heavy on your voice.
"the ring is important! it's- it's our promise!"
she cries, hanging her head low. jinx is so ashamed, it hurts your heart to see. you let go of her hand and frantically sweep along her workbench for anything. you knew you had a first aid kit somewhere, you'd gotten it after seeing jinx patch herself up in a way that would make any doctor shiver. but god damn it, where was it?
there.
you quickly swipe the kit and a bottle of peroxide from her workbench, rushing back over to jinx. you take one of her wrists and quickly guide her over to her beaten-up couch.
"sit."
"but-"
"sit."
jinx huffs and sits down on the couch, you sitting down beside her. you open the kit and bottle, pouring peroxide onto a cotton square and taking her hand into your lap.
"this is going to sting. a lot."
jinx winces at just the thought, but nods slowly. keeping her eyes on what you're doing-
"agh- fuck!"
she yelps, tossing her head back as you press the square to the wound, holding it there to both disinfect and stop the bleeding.
"i'm sorry, baby, it'll be over soon. i just need to stop the bleeding."
you coo, trying to do anything in your power to calm her down. yet it's obvious the injury itself isn't what she's upset about.
"that- that fucker vi is with shot it off, she shot the ring off..."
jinx seethes through gritted teeth, trying to keep her composure as you hold the peroxide to her wound. ah.. that makes sense. caitlyn was never fond of jinx, especially after the stunt she pulled with the council room. part of you was simply grateful that she didn't just take jinx out, as much as you knew she was probably trying to.
jinx was always putting herself in so much danger, both for the sake of necessity and the fact her ego was just so damn inflated. she said it herself- she just can't seem to die. but she got impossibly close way more than you would've liked her to.
you take out a roll of gauze and begin to wrap it around her hand, the wound being in the center of it all. it's far from professional, but this will have to do until you can get her proper medical attention. which you were trying to avoid talking about, since jinx was the last person to ever admit she needed help.
"jinx, i'm just happy that you're alive. i don't care about the ring right now. what if she had shot you somewhere more... vital?"
"then i would've gotten to keep the ring."
god damn it. she could not be serious right now. you finish wrapping her hand, bleeding having come to a halt and wound disinfected. you'd grab some painkillers in a moment. you quickly take both of her cheeks in your hands, forcing her to look you directly in the eye. the cold metal of your own ring against soft skin.
"jinx. again, i'm happy that you're here, and you're alive, and losing your finger was the worst thing that happened. i will get you a new ring, first thing tomorrow. okay?"
she sighs, her lips coming into a slight pout. at the very least, she's not crying anymore.
"but..."
you press your index finger to her lips, shushing her.
"no. just because you don't have the ring anymore doesn't mean the promise went out the window, okay?" you whisper, brushing your lips against her forehead. "i still love you, and still have promised myself to you. that won't change.
jinx closes her eyes, and leans into your kiss. she seems to have finally resigned, and is snaking her arms around your waist.
"i just- i love you so much..."
"i know, baby. i love you too, which is why i'll get you a new ring. a better one, even."
your hand still cupping her face, you lean in to press a chaste kiss to her lips.
"just stay here, with me. you've had a hell of a day."

୧ SLICE OF CAKE ( 전원우 )
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
genre fluff , established marriage , husband!wonwoo x wife!reader   cw food mention (cake) , teasing , they're in love and make me feel single , not proofread   wc 490   request @k1eev for wonwoo + arms clasped around one's waist for the 3k event   note man i haven't written for svt in a while but this reminded me how insane i am for wonwoo ever since i wrote fire lord wonwoo. that fic truly changed me and my bias line. i hope you enjoy kie!!!   net @kstrucknet
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Stop trying to run away. Come here.” Wonwoo’s voice was gentle and steady as always, but there was a subtle hint of amusement in his tone that only you would pick up. His words made your body relax almost immediately and a small smile crept on your lips.
“Why should I? You ate the last piece of cake,” you reminded him yet again, as if there was any possibility he would forget the fact with you reminding him every ten minutes the past hour.
“I’d buy you fifty cakes if that’s what you wanted. Just come here,” he told you, holding out his arms, waiting for you to consider the offer. You were only dawdling to tease him. He looked awfully cute with his glasses perched on his nose and his slightly messy hair from his gaming headphones. He hadn’t known you wanted the last piece of cake and had already apologized for it. He knew you were teasing him too, for just last week you had stolen food he had his eyes on as well.
So you relented, and padded over to him, allowing his arms to find their home on your waist. His touch was firm, portraying his clear intentions. He wasn’t going to let you go until he had his fill. He hugged you close, lips right by your ear.
“Do you want me to buy you another cake?” he asked, and you giggled. He treated you too well.
“No, love. It’s okay. I don’t want another cake— just want you to keep holding me.”
“Keep holding you? I think I can do that,” he said, smiling wider now. His grip on your tightened ever so slightly, the comforting hug welcome. Feeling Wonwoo so close to you was everything you could ever want, and infinitely better than a slice of cake.
You snaked your arms around his waist as well to mirror the gesture, looking up at him with pure love in your eyes. He looked back down at you with nothing but the same feeling, and another gentle squeeze to your waist told you everything.
Your husband was a simple man, and it seemed like his only priority in life was to make sure you were happy. He did an excellent job at it, and you reminded him every day just how lucky you felt to have met him, fallen in love, and now be able to spend the rest of your life together. There was no better man you could have found, nor a better match for you than Wonwoo. Your perfect equal, even if he ate the last slice of cake sometimes.
“How long do you want me to hold you?” he asked after a while. You looked like the last thing you wanted to do is make any moves to remove yourself from his arms.
“Forever.”
“I’m afraid I’m not so confident I can do that. But I can certainly try. Whatever my wife desires.”

I cannot understate how clever and beautiful Penelope's response to wyfilwma is. In the original myth, Penelope literally isn't sure if the man before her is truly her husband, so she asks him to move a bed that is impossible to move. A fact about their relationship that only he could know. When he gets absolutely flabbergasted over this request, it's proof that it IS him.
In Epic there is only one change. Instead of Penelope being unsure, Odysseus is unsure of himself and feels like he would be unrecognizable to his wife. He keeps telling her over and over again, I am not the man you knew, and it's almost as though he's trying to convince himself, too. Like since he crossed every line he's killed all the gentleness in him, and he has to force himself to accept it. Penelope knows better, Penelope knows him. Instead of using their wedding bed as a way to prove it to herself, she proves it to him instead.
"See that wedding bed? Could you carry it over?
Lift it high on your shoulders and take it far away from here"
Shes talking about their bed but she is also talking about their love, their history, everything that makes up their marriage. Its like shes asking him, if you truly are someone else- here's everything that we used to be, everything that we built together, throw it out. You're not the same, right? Then surely you can detach yourself from it all.
But he cant. he cant he cant he cant and she knows that. The shock and the outrage and the pain of being asked to do such a thing hits him with a full force and he talks of how he made the bed, what its meant to them, why he couldnt possibly move it away.
"Do you realize what you have asked me?
The only way to move it is to cut it from its roots"
To cut it from the roots would be to sever their love entirely, it cant exist without what came before and what came before was the two of them. He fears thats what she wants, a completely uproot of their life together. But the fact that he fears it, truly deeply cares like a sentimental bastard, the fact that he could never not be the man who loves her is what she's been trying to show him all along.
"Only my husband knew that
So I guess that makes him you"
like my GOD. THIS LINE. He cannot be anything but her love because he is the only man who knows what they are to each other. She says it and that is final. Moving it is impossible because seperating the man he used to be from the man he is is impossible too. They are one in the same.
"I will fall in love with you over and over again
I don't care how, where, or when
No matter how long it's been, you're mine
Don't tell me you're not the same person
You're always my husband and I've been waiting, waiting"
She is not loving him by ignoring the trail of bodies in his wake and her love does not change the carnage-- in fact she is the reason for it, she knows this and she doesnt care. This is her husband now and always. And as long as bloodied hands will still hold her weaving ones he is the same exact man she's been waiting for.
It is such a beautiful message to leave your audience with. It is so perfect for Penelope as a character and the emotional weight this song has elevated my understanding of the odyssey and their relationship. Twenty years is so long, everything has changed, we have done unforgivable things to get home to each other-- because our home is each other. You are sharp and cruel and I am cunning and so so angry and we are both so tired but guess fucking what, I love you. No matter how long its been, youre mine.

Our Merry Eternity
And she swears that every Christmas season, it feels like they fall deeper and deeper in love with each other.
(In which a writer would like to argue that a day after Christmas, is a perfectly reasonable time to release a Christmas fic)
Pairing: Paige Bueckers X Azzi Fudd
Themes: Fluff, fluff, fluff with some hurt/comfort and angst if you squint
Words: 9.4K (if I could write things shorter maybe y'all would get things faster but alas)
TW: Implied sexual content/suggestive content, mentions of divorce, mentions of injuries, swearing
A/N: MERRY (one day after) CHRISTMAS MY LOVIES <3 It seems like everyone wanted domestic fluff and who am I to deny the people what they want (even if it is a little later than I intended it to be) and I didn't realize how much I missed eternity-verse till I wrote this. I'mma keep this short and sweet and go through the basics. Such as the fact that I did not edit. I eventually will but for now, feel free to let me know about any grammar/spelling/formatting issues. And even though I haven't had the time to go through my inbox in a hot second, I promise I will soon so as always, let me know what you liked, what you didn't and what you'd like to see in the future. Have a lovely rest of your holidays my angels <3
It’s beginning (to look a lot like Christmas)
Paige isn’t the biggest fan of Christmas; she doesn’t dislike it by any means but she’s never understood the fascination everyone else seems to have with it. Perhaps it’s because when she was younger, Christmas had been her parents’ favorite holiday to try and one-up each other. They’d competed in everything, from how big the tree was to how evenly spread the icing on the cookies were. Eventually the excitement of getting a big expensive present from one parent that would only be rivaled by an even bigger, more expensive present from the other wore off and all that was left was this hollow feeling of being torn in two. Her parents have matured now -no longer in a constant battle for her approval now that they had other kids to focus on as well- but the magic of Christmas had long worn off and Paige hadn’t bothered trying to rediscover it.
Until now.
Because right now, watching -through a facetime call that’s been running for almost four hours now- Azzi run around Walmart, searching for decorations and presents with her exasperated family in tow, almost feels a little magical. The way the younger girl’s eyes twinkle when she finds the perfect gift, the way her dimples deepen when she triumphantly wins an argument against her mother for an ornament her tree needs, makes Paige think that it would be so easy to fall in love with Christmas, if she got to spend it with Azzi.
And it’s like Azzi’s reading her mind because suddenly the younger girl’s face is filling all of Paige’s screen as she holds the phone close to her face, lips pouting in a way that has the blonde feelings decidedly unfriendly feelings toward a girl she’s barely known for six months, but feels like a best friend she’s known all her life.
“I wish we could spend Christmas together,” Azzi says with a slight whine, “and then you could help me with all of this. They’re absolutely no help-” her last sentence is cut off by her family and Paige laughs as the Fudds break out into a series of indignant protests.
“Oh so you just want me for manual labor or something huh?” Paige teases, leaning back against her bed and folding her arms across her chest, “and here I thought it’s cause you missed me.”
“I do miss you,” Azzi says matter-of-factly.
“Nah,” Paige shakes her head, “sounds like you just need another person to slave around for you.”
Azzi's mouth falls open at the accusation as the Fudds break into laughter behind her, the sound of it making something impossibly warm bloom in Paige’s chest.
“I do not make people slave around for me.”
“Yeah you do. You’re the princess. You order us around and we do as we’re told.”
“Here, here-ow!” Jon’s noise of agreement is cut off by his sister elbowing him in the stomach, “do all that work and get rewarded by violence too.”
“I tell you I miss you and this is how you repay me?” Azzi asks, her voice tinged with drama.
“Nah I still don’t believe you miss me,” it’s a lie; Paige is fully aware Azzi misses her -thinks that the younger girl has to feel at least a semblance of the emptiness she feels herself at the distance between them- but she likes making Azzi repeat it; likes the constant confirmation that Azzi misses her too.
“Of course I miss you P, after all,” Azzi’s eyes glint with mischief, “we’re engaged aren’t we? A girl’s gotta miss her fiancé.”
The cavalier use of the tone of endearment makes Paige freeze. It’s a joke; a callback to the fact that Paige had practically threatened Azzi that she’d have to marry her if the younger girl won their little pop-a-shot competition last summer at the Minnesota State fair. Paige hadn’t been thinking, it had just slipped out but then Azzi had won the game and then there were rings being exchanged and somehow the whole thing had become one big running joke between the two of them. Except, the idea of forever with Azzi doesn’t feel much like a joke to Paige. It feels like a wish, a hope, a want, a need  something she’s not quite ready to admit to herself yet.
“I miss you too Az,” Paige says softly as they grin at each other through the phone, “can’t wait to see my best friend soon.”
Thirteen days to be exact -they’d planned to spend the last half of winter break together- but it’s not like Paige is crossing the days off of her calendar or anything.
“Fiancé,” Azzi corrects and Paige’s heart flutters despite her brain trying to remind her that this is just a bit they’re playing at.
“Right, so fiancé,” the word tastes like sugar cookies and marshmallows on the tip of her tongue, “you get my present yet?”
“You know I have and before you ask,” Azzi gives her a knowing look when Paige excitedly opens her mouth, “no I won’t give you a hint about what it is.”
“But Azziiiiiii-”
“Absolutely not Paige,” Azzi says firmly, “presents are meant to be surprises.”
“Aren’t fiancés meant to tell each other everything?” Paige scrunches her nose.
“Not this. Christmas presents are a sacred secret,” the younger girl replies gravely.
“And who made you an expert on all things Christmas presents?”
“Santa did,” Azzi retorts haughtily.
Paige snorts, “well Santa doesn’t ex-”
“PAIGE MADISON BUECKERS,” Azzi yells and the blonde can tell by the way she winces immediately that the younger girl’s little outburst had gotten her more than a couple of wary looks, “Paige Madison Bueckers,” she hisses again, her voice much quieter this time, “you take that back right now!”
“Az-”
“Take it back!”
“Bro you’re fifteen years old,” Paige argues.
“Believing has no age,” Azzi hums airily, “now take it back.”
“Nope!”
“Take it back or I’ll end our engagement,” Azzi threatens and Paige blanches at ultimatum.
“You wouldn’t,” she gasps.
“Try me.”
Paige is sixteen and she’s only really just started to learn what love is, but she thinks, as she sits on her bed bickering on facetime over the most ridiculous of topics with a girl who makes her feel things she’s never felt before, that maybe love is just something as simple and crazy as pretending admitting Santa is real so she can prevent her fake engagement, that’s almost beginning to feel a little much like a real promise, from being called off.
2. With you (under the mistletoe)
The truth is that neither of them quite remember what started the fight or even really why it had continued after. All they know is that one minute everything had been fine and then the next minute, they were fuming at each other and their plane ride back to the DMV for Christmas had passed in uncharacteristic silence. They'd parted ways at the airport -glumly sauntering over to their waiting families while decidedly avoiding looking over in each other’s directions- with a dreadful mixture of regret, guilt and the feeling of missing each other. But despite the fact that they were both clearly miserable, Paige and Azzi were both too stubborn and too eager to prove which one of them could be more stubborn. This was their first true fight after they’d gotten together earlier this year, and they were both adamant that the other one would apologize first.
But Azzi can feel the urge to cave in grow stronger and stronger by the minute as she feels Paige’s body against her own as the blonde reaches over the younger girl to grab something from the shelf. The contact is unnecessary and she knows Paige is doing it on purpose, trying to get a reaction and it takes every inch of self-control Azzi has to not shiver as the older girl presses herself against her back, acting like whatever she’s grabbing isn’t right at the front of the shelf. Azzi tries to focus on the cookies she’s icing, tries to keep her hands still as she traces the outline of a star in royal icing, tries to do anything but focus on the way Paige’s warm breath is tickling against the back of her neck.
It’s two days till Christmas and the Fudd family and friends have gathered to do their annual cookie baking and decorating tradition. And Katie had been clear that no matter what issues Paige and Azzi were having, they wouldn’t interfere with the open invitation that Paige had always had -since she’d moved to the DMV but even before that really- to join them throughout the Christmas festivities. Azzi had pretended to be a little miffed by it but secretly she’d been hoping that her girlfriend -god she still got such a thrill out of being able to call her that- would show up. They’d only really been apart for a day, but since they’d met, Paige and Azzi hadn’t gone often without talking to each other -whether it was in person or through text or on the phone- and so 24 hours had felt a little bit like 24 years and Azzi had spent every second missing the girl who’d long since become a part of her soul. And even though Paige had grunted about only being here for Drew’s sake, Azzi knows -by the way the blonde’s eyes had drunk in the sight of her when she’d let her into the house, by the way her stiff shoulders had relaxed just by being near her again- that Paige had missed her just as much.
But neither of them are quite ready to admit it yet, and so, as they bustle around the confined space of the Fudd’s kitchen, Paige continues to find ways to light Azzi’s skin on fire and Azzi continues to pretend it isn’t making her burn with want.
“Noooooooo,” a drawled out whine from the kitchen table has Azzi and Paige jumping away from each other as they both turn to look at Drew.
Azzi’s eyes widen and Paige bursts into laughter as they take in the scene in front of them. Clearly the little boy had overestimated his strength and the piping bag had burst and now Drew stands by the table, his lips slightly parted in shock, as the red icing -originally intended for the Santa hat cookies- drips down the front of his shirt. Jon and José are doubled down in their chairs, tears practically streaming down their faces as the sound of their laughter echoes through the walls.
“Oh my god,” Paige manages to get out between her giggles, “what did you do Drewskie.”
“Nothing,” her little brother immediately defends himself, “it literally burst out of nowhere.”
“Sure it did little Hulk, sure it did,” José teases as he swipes his finger over Drew’s ruined shirt and then licks the icing off of it, the casualness of it causing Jon and Paige to burst into another round of laughter while Azzi tries as hard as she can to keep her own giggles contained but a smile slips through the cracks.
“It’s not funny,” Drew stomps his feet petulantly, “I’m all sticky and icky and gross. Azzi,” he looks at the brunette with imploring eyes, “tell them to stop- OH MY GOD ARE YOU LAUGHING AT ME TOO.”
Azzi's eyes widen as she tries to protest, “no of course not. C’mon let’s get you a new-”
But before she can put her plan into action, clearly Drew has a different idea and before Azzi can stop it from happening, the little boy is grabbing another piping bag -this one with green icing- and aiming it straight at Jose. There’s a split second of silence as the green icing arcs through the air, almost in slow motion, before landing with a splat on Jose’s newly bought t-shirt. And then the room bursts into chaos as Drew immediately dives behind Azzi’s legs, Paige and Jon continue to lose their minds laughing and José lets out a loud scream.
“WHAT THE FU-”
“José language,” both Paige and Azzi reprimand immediately and José glares at them but corrects himself anyways.
“What the fudge dude,” José scowls at Drew, “this is a brand new shirt.”
For his part, the little boy shrugs, “I thought you liked eating icing off of shirts. I figured I’d make it easier and let you eat it off of your own shirt.
If it’s possible this somehow makes Jon and Paige laugh harder and instead of focusing his wrath on Drew who’s still nestled behind Azzi’s legs, José turns on the two of them instead.
“You guys think this is SO funny don’t you,” he says menacingly, grabbing for two more piping bags.
“José no,” Paige is the first one to recover as she tries to turn away from the mess but it’s too late, and just as she’s trying to bolt out the door, she’s stopped by a glob of pink icing landing with a splat on the back of her plain white shirt.
“Oh you’re so dead,” Paige whispers angrily as she turns around, grabbing another bag of icing and aiming it directly at José’s face.
And then there’s no stopping anyone as Azzi watches as all the beautiful icing she’d painstakingly made and dyed into different colors begins to be thrown all over the kitchen, a rainbow painting itself all over the walls and floors. Drew darts out from behind her legs, joining into the mayhem as he starts to pelt Jon with all sorts of colors.
Seeing them all distracted and knowing it’s only a matter of time before she gets sucked into all of it, Azzi slowly tiptoes backwards, wanting nothing to do with the mess, and she’s just about to turn around and run up the stairs when a low voice echoes behind her.
“And where do you think you’re going,” because of course Paige had noticed her trying to escape; Paige always noticed when it came to Azzi.
“Paige,” Azzi warns slowly, trying to move away from the other girl, her eyes fixated on the purple icing in the blonde’s hands, “please.”
Paige smirks as she takes another step towards Azzi, “this is a little unfair isn’t it?”
“Hey I didn’t start any of this,” Azzi puts her hands up in surrender, choosing to back away from the stairs and towards the living room instead, “go fight the people who did.”
Paige shakes her head as she takes another step, “I already got ‘em all. Amateurs,” she says cockily, “they think they can beat me in a food fight.”
Azzi rolls her eyes, “is there anything you’re not arrogant about?”
“Can’t help that I’m good at everything,” Paige shrugs and Azzi’s about to come up with a snarky retort when the blonde’s eyes soften, “except I guess- I guess I’m not too great at apologizing.”
Gone is the air of overconfidence that had surrounded the older girl just a second before and in her place is that soft, vulnerable Paige that Azzi is so desperately in love with and she can’t help but take a step towards the blonde.
“We should both probably apologize huh,” she says quietly, “think we both said some petty shit we didn’t mean.”
It’s true; they’d known each other so long and so deeply that they knew exactly how to push each other’s buttons, how to say the exact wrong thing to rile each other up when they were frustrated. The fight had been inevitable; an explosion of all the angst that existed between two athletes who were both fighting injuries and watching their team struggle without them. It had started with something little that Azzi can’t quite remember but then they were yelling about other things -Paige’s grievances about how Azzi had an irritating habit of hovering and Azzi’s issues with Paige’s tendency to close herself off- and it had ended with both of them near tears as they’d frustratedly stomped into their rooms.
“I’m sorry,” Paige says it first, as she loops her arm around Azzi’s waist, bringing the younger girl as close to her as she can, “I love you. I miss you.”
Azzi smiles, her hands finding their rightful place around Paige’s neck, not caring that the other girl is still covered in sticky icing,  “don’t gotta miss me baby. I’m right here,” she says softly, resting her forehead against the blonde’s, “I’m sorry too. I love you so much.”
“Look up,” Paige says softly, as she strokes Azzi’s cheek and the younger girl does as she’s told, laughing when she notices the mistletoe hanging above them.
“Kissing under the mistletoe? You’re so cliché Bueckers.”
“Clichés are clichés for a reason Az,” Paige hums faintly before she’s pulling Azzi into a searing kiss, holding her as tightly as she physically can.
And yet Azzi still finds a way to tug her closer, trying to find a way to meld their bodies into one as she presses herself as close to Paige as possible. She’s just about to suggest they take this upstairs -because god has she missed being with Paige- when instead she feels the older girl pull away and before she can even react, she’s being hit in the face with a stream of bright purple icing.
“PAIGE WHAT THE FUCK,”
“Sorry baby. Just couldn’t help myself,” Paige grins as she steps back into Azzi’s space, gently attaching her lips to Azzi’s cheeks as her tongue languidly licks away at the icing and this time the younger girl doesn’t even try to hide the way her body reacts to it, “I promise I’ll clean you up though.”
3. I’ll be home (for Christmas)
“I’m good I swear,” Azzi’s voice is raw and hoarse like it often gets when she’s been crying and despite the younger girl’s best efforts to put on a brave front, Paige can hear right through it.
She cocks an eyebrow, shifting from her back onto her elbows and placing her phone -with the facetime call- against the headboard, “then why won’t you let me see your face?”
“It’s not me. Something’s up with my camera. I don’t know what,” and if it was anyone else, even someone else who also knew that Azzi had literally just gotten a new phone, maybe the attempted sincerity in the brunette’s voice would be enough to convince them that she was telling the truth.
But Paige has every line of the Azzi Fudd façade memorized, knows exactly how to discern the little cadences in her girlfriend’s voice and read between the lines. She knows Azzi’s purposely refusing to show her face; knows that it’s probably because it would take Paige one glance at said beautiful, gorgeous, stunning face to know that there had been tears running down it just a little bit ago.
The blonde sighs, choosing to let the lie go and instead focus on the precious few minutes she’s got to speak to her girlfriend in peace. This is the first time Paige and Azzi have truly been apart for an extended amount of time since the latter had gotten to UConn and somehow the past few weeks have felt worse than when they’d spent months and months apart. With Paige trying to lead an injury-riddled team and Azzi rehabbing another torn ACL, the opportunities to indulge in a proper facetimes call had been few and far between. And when they did finally find the team, it wasn’t just that they were physically tired; they were both emotionally drained too. It was hard recharging when their batteries -each other- were so far away and every call felt hollow; like something was missing.
“I miss you,” Paige says finally, feet digging into her bed as she musters up a soft smile, wishing that she could see Azzi return it with one of her own instead of staring at a black screen with only her own face in the corner.
“Tell me something I don’t know,” the younger girl says lightly and something uncomfortable churns in Paige’s stomach.
“You uh- you haven’t said it back in a while,” she says slowly, trying to keep her voice casual.
“Said what?”
Paige gulps, “that you miss me,” she gives Azzi a second to respond before her nerves have her speaking a mile per minute, “I mean not that you- not that you have to say it back or anything it’s just- you usually do- or like you always did and you just- you just haven’t said it back. And I mean I don’t say I miss you just so you’ll say it back or anything. I mean I do- you know- miss you and so that why I say it- because- because I miss you- I miss you so fucking much baby and I just- I just want you to know that but you haven’t- you haven’t said it back in a little bit and I just- Azzi,” her voice cracks as she tries not to let the tears slip through, “you do miss me don’t you?”
The other girl is quiet for so long that Paige thinks maybe she’s said too much; her mind rushes to the worst possibilities because what if Azzi really doesn’t miss her? What if her insecurities are right and the time apart has made Azzi realize that she wants something other than Paige?
“Of course I miss you Paige,” Azzi’s voice is thick with tears and all of Paige’s previous fears are replaced with worry instead, “god baby I miss you so fucking much. I miss you all the time and I’m sorry, fuck Paige, I’m sorry if I ever made you think I didn’t but baby- I-,” she’s heaving through her tears and Paige wishes she was with her; wishes she could wipe away her tears and hold her forever.
“Azzi-”
“I haven’t been saying it back because- because-” Azzi pushes on, still struggling to speak but determined to say her piece, “I can’t okay? I can’t keep saying it Paige- I can’t keep telling you I miss you and hearing that you miss me when we can’t do anything about it. And I get it- okay- I get it. I get that you have to be with the team and I have to be here and do my rehab and we can’t- we can’t be together right but fuck- I hate it. I hate it so much.”
“Azzi,” Paige says again helplessly.
She hates it too; hates that it’s so close to Christmas, so close to Azzi’s favorite holiday and her girlfriend is sobbing.
“Shit. I’m being a terrible girlfriend aren’t I? You have a game in a couple of hours and here I am being a fucking selfish wet wipe instead of wishing you luck. Fucking hell,” Azzi curses and Paige can picture her frantically pulling herself together as she tries to change her tone.
“You could never be a terrible girlfriend,” Paige reassures softly.
Azzi ignores her, “besides, we’ll see each other soon right? You’re gonna fly home from Toronto to Connecticut tomorrow and then come home to me after right? Just a couple more days,” and it sounds like she’s saying it more to herself than Paige, “just a few more days- few more hours really. We can do this.”
“Yeah,” Paige agrees but she can’t help but feel like even that’s too long and there’s a plan starting to form in her mind; a good use of all that NIL money she’s been earning.
“I love you P,” Azzi says softly, and despite the heaviness from before, Paige can hear the smile in her voice, “see you soon baby.”
“I love you too Az. I’ll be home soon,” Paige replies, a large grin settling onto her face as she gets ready to bring her idea to fruition; knowing that for now, their soons don’t quite mean the same thing.
***
Azzi thinks her parents and brother must have the patience of a saint. She’s acutely aware that she’s been a miserable grinch to be around; either ignoring them or answering them with tight one-word sentences. Since she’d come down to Virginia for her rehab, she’s kept herself holed down in her room, only coming out when absolutely necessary. The worst part of it, is that it’s her favorite time of the year and Azzi’s barely participated in all the little Christmas traditions -half of which had really been created by her- that she’d normally be excited to indulge in.
She sighs, burrowing herself further into her pillows to block out the chatter of her family upstairs. In a couple of minutes, she’s sure one of them will come rushing downstairs, pleading for her to come join them as they make Christmas themed pancakes. And she’ll refuse -just as she has with every other fun little activity- and all though whoever’s been tasked with getting her out of her cave will persist a little longer, eventually they’ll give up, that awful look, tinged in both disappointment and pity, on their face as they go back upstairs with a promise to bring her a plate in a little bit. It’s a terrible routine that’s been on rinse and repeat and Azzi thinks she’d really like to break herself out of it, but it feels like she’s drowning in it instead, and there’s not a lifeboat in sight to pull her out of her misery.
Turning on her side, Azzi reaches for her phone, flipping to Paige’s contact and her heart aches from their last conversation last night. God she’d been so selfish, venting like that knowing her girlfriend had a game in a couple of hours; knowing how stressful each game -no matter how easy the opponent- was with an injury-riddled team. But Paige had sounded so miserable when asking if Azzi still missed her that in a way it had been infectious and suddenly Azzi found herself letting her own hurt waterfall out of her lips.
She scrunches her nose, eyebrows crinkling in confusion when she realizes that the last text she’d sent Paige before going to sleep  -a simple you did really good today baby, i’m proud of you right after the game- had gone unanswered. Azzi frowns, looking down at her phone as if her staring harder at it might just conjure up a message from her girlfriend. She’d fallen asleep almost right after sending it and it was unlike Paige to not have answered her by the time she woke up. Azzi rattles her brain, trying to remember if the blonde had mentioned any other plans -beyond a dinner with Aaliyah’s parents that wouldn’t have kept her from her phone- but she can’t remember anything. Briefly glancing at the time and knowing that Paige’s flight to Connectcut wasn’t supposed to leave for at least another three hours, Azzi hastily texts her girlfriend again, crossing her fingers behind her back in anticipation of a quick reply.
Good morning Paigey <3
She gives it exactly three minutes, stomach churning when she doesn’t get a reply.
I miss you baby.
Another four minutes and still no reply and Azzi starts to feel her head getting heavy with that familiar weight of over thinking. What if she’d overstepped last night? What if it was too much? What if Paige had decided that she couldn’t deal with Azzi and her crap anymore?
She can hear someone starting to hurry down the steps, the quickness making her think it’s probably one of her brother’s who’s been tasked with getting her out of her room this time. But Azzi keeps her focus on her phone, ready to reject whatever offer is about to be made. The door creaks open and she doesn’t look up, typing another message instead.
I love you Paige.
“I love you too Azzi.”
Azzi freezes at the sound of the oh so familiar voice, her gaze moving from her phone to the doorway in slow-motion. She blinks in disbelief, mouth falling open as she stares at the figure in her doorway, taking in the sight of a disheveled blonde ponytail, the custom UConn sweats draped on a body that’s radiating exhaustion but more than anything her eyes fixates on that smile, the one that’s always been just for her.
“Paige,” she breathes out slowly, almost as if she’s scared that saying it will make the girl in front of her disappear like a dream.
“Hi baby,” Paige says softly, casually pointing to her phone, “I got your message.”
“You’re here,” Azzi chokes out and then, louder, “you’re here oh my god, you’re really here,” she repeats, rushing to get out of bed, desperate to wrap her arms around Paige, to hold her and be held in return.
“Hey, hey, hey wait baby careful,” Paige chides, her focus immediately on Azzi’s knee, “stay where you are-”
“What? Why?” Azzi pouts and that elicits a little laugh from Paige as she walks over to the brunette.
“Because,” the older girl says quietly, as she crawls onto the bed and pulls Azzi onto her lap so the younger girl is straddling Paige’s hips, “I’m here.”
Azzi looks at her in awe, hand tracing the curves of Paige’s face like she still can’t quite believe this is real, “yeah,” she whispers, “you’re here.”
And then she’s kissing every inch of Paige’s skin that she can, memorizing the way it feels soft and smooth under her lips, trying to make up for all the lost time of the past few weeks and perhaps even for when she knows they’ll inevitably have to be separated again. Paige’s grip on her waist is tight, fingers gripping her like they’re scared to let go as she shivers under Azzi’s featherlight touch.
“I’m here,” Paige repeats again before she guides Azzi’s lips onto her own into a feverish kiss that has both of them letting out a long-kept sigh of relief.
It starts off innocent enough, the two of them savoring the moment, savoring the feeling of finally being in each other’s arms. But then Paige’s tongue is licking into Azzi’s mouth and the younger girl is grinding her hips in the way she knows will drive the blonde a little insane as Paige’s own hands find themselves roaming underneath Azzi’s pajama shirt, rubbing circles dangerously close to the edge of her sleep shorts.
“Missed you- missed you so fucking much,” Azzi babbles as Paige’s mouth moves away from her lips to trail a series of kisses down her jaw, to her neck before nipping at her collarbone.
“Me too- me fucking too,” Paige mutters between kisses as she soothes her tongue over the mark she’d just tattooed into Azzi’s skin with her teeth, eyes glazing over when it elicits a barely-concealed moan from the brunette’s lips.
“Missed this,” Azzi groans, continuing to roll her body against Paige’s, and she thinks she could fall off the edge just like this, untouched and fully clothed.
“I know, baby. I know,” Paige pants as she continues her assault on the young girl’s skin, “gonna take care of you. I swear. Gonna make up for everything tonight-”
“No now,” Azzi whines, hands tangling in Paige’s hair and pulling in a way that has the older girl groaning into the crook of her neck, “I need you now. I’ll be quiet, I swear. Paige please.”
“Fuck baby don’t say that. You know I can’t say no to you.”
“Then don’t say no to me,” Azzi responds with a smirk, one hand trailing down to gently flick against Paige’s nipples causing the blonde to let out a conflicted noise somewhere between pure arousal and reluctant protest.
“I can’t,” she says finally, resting her head against Azzi’s shoulder as she purposefully grips the younger girl’s waist to keep her still.
Azzi pouts, “why not?”
When Paige finally looks up at her, there’s a sheepish look on her face, “I made a bet with your brothers.”
“What?”
“They said they hadn’t been able to get you out of your room and I said I could do it in ten minutes and they said it would take me a lot longer,” Paige says, hands moving animatedly and Azzi can’t help the fond smile that flitters onto her face.
“So let me get this straight,” she says slowly, “we haven’t seen each other in weeks, haven’t fucked,” she purposefully grinds her hips down onto the other girl, “in weeks and you wanna delay it longer because you wanna win a bet against my brothers?”
Paige has the decency to look at least a little ashamed as she nods before giving Azzi a goofy grin, “yes? I love you?”
Azzi rolls her eyes as she slips off of Paige’s lap, already missing the warmth of being on top of the other girl, “can’t believe you’d rather win a bet than fuck me.”
“Nah,” Paige smirks as she stands up, her hands immediately inching themselves around Azzi’s waist, “I’d rather win a bet, use that money to get us a hotel tonight and then fuck you.”
“You’ve really thought this through haven’t you?” Azzi shakes her head, trying to hide her excitement at the idea of being in a hotel room -being alone, just the two of them- with Paige tonight.
“Ten steps ahead always baby,” Paige grins as she presses her lips against Azzi’s, ending it quicker than either of them would like, “now hurry up so I can win this bet.”
But Azzi doesn’t move, instead she pulls Paige back into her, resting their foreheads together as she breathes in the scent of her girlfriend.
“I’m really glad you’re home P,” she whispers and Paige smiles, gently rubbing her back, “didn’t feel like Christmas season without you.”
4. You’re all I need (underneath the tree)
Azzi’s just putting on the finishing touches to her outfit -dangly gold hoops that Paige had gotten her just because- when she feels a pair of arms wrap around her middle, a warm body being pressed against her chest. She smiles, letting herself melt into her wife’s -God she loves being able to say that- touch, leaning her head back against Paige’s shoulder.
“You look so pretty in that dress,” the older woman whispers into her ear as she runs her hands up and down the velvety red material covering Azzi’s body, “but you sure we have to go to your parents’ right now? Cause I think you’d look even better out of it.”
Azzi giggles; they’ve been together for almost nine years -known each other for even longer-  and yet every time Paige gives her a compliment, she feels her insides swooning, cheeks going red like she’s still a teenager whose crush is flirting with her. And she thinks this feeling will never go away, that the halo-like glow Paige’s mere presence casts around her will never fade because this love -this all-consuming sense of you’re it for me between them- is going to last forever. She’s sure of it.
“Do you ever think of anything but sex?” Azzi rolls her eyes as she turns around in Paige’s arms, fingers immediately reaching up to fix the collar of Paige’s matching red shirt.
Paige grins, “nah cause I’m always thinking about you and so by default I’m always thinking about sex.”
“You’re insatiable,” Azzi shakes her head.
“Can you blame me when my wife looks like that?” Paige makes a show of looking up and down Azzi’s body, letting out a low appreciative whistle at the way the dress hugs her figure, the neckline dipping just low enough to stay respectable yet sexy.
“You look pretty good yourself Bueckers,” Azzi hums as she grazes her teeth lightly against Paige’s neck, making the older woman shudder.
“Careful Az,” Paige warns, the sultry lilt in her voice saying the exact opposite, “I might start getting the wrong idea.”
Azzi shrugs cheekily, “and what idea would that be?”
Paige smirks, gently tugging at Azzi’s dress to expose a shoulder before she’s attaching her lips to the newly uncovered patch of skin, “that maybe you want us to be late. Or better yet, maybe you don’t want us to go at all.”
Keening under the softness of Paige’s touch, Azzi reluctantly pushes the older woman away, and that might be worse because now she can see her eyes and the lust swimming in them makes her want to give into temptation. But they’re already running late and she has no desire to give their brother’s any teasing material, so she settles on stealing another kiss from Paige’s lips.
“Go warm up the car,” she mutters against the blonde’s lips, gently squeezing her waist before she detaches from Paige and starts to fix her dress, “I’mma just do a quick double check and then be out.”
“Yes your highness,” Paige teases with a slight roll of her eyes before she’s grabbing both her and Azzi’s packed overnight bags and heading towards the car.
Azzi smiles as she watches her go. As much as they joked about not going at all, both of them loved spending Christmas with their families, especially considering how the Fudds, Bueckers and everything in between had melded into one big one. Despite the fact that living in the DMV now meant that they saw at least someone in their family once a week, the idea of having everyone under the same roof was still thrilling nonetheless.
Life had a funny way of working out. The plan had been set in motion since Azzi had been drafted to DC and although Paige had been tempted to stay in Minnesota -after all being the hometown hero picked with the no.1 pick had served her and the. team well for her first four rookie years, considering she’d helped them return to their former championship glory- they had ultimately decided that with most of their family in the DMV area, it made more sense for Paige to ask for a trade to DC than it did for Azzi to move to Minnesota. It hadn’t been the smoothest transition -they’d had their fair share of fights while making the decision and then adjusting to it- but they’d figure it out. They always did. Because as good as Paige and Azzi were at fighting with each other, they were even better at fighting for each other.
Quickly going through the to-do-list in her brain, Azzi nods to herself as she silently checks off everything. She does a quick glance of her room, making sure that they’re not leaving anything they’d need, before reaching to grab her phone, just to text her parents that they were on their own way. Instead her eyes catch on an email notification, her heart beating erratically when she reads the name of the sender.
Fingers fidgeting with the heart necklace Paige had gotten her years ago, Azzi slowly clicks on the notification as anticipation burns throughout her whole body. She tries to steady her breathing as she scans through it, reading each line carefully and she almost drops her phone, large hot tears dripping down her cheeks as she reaches the end of it. Her chest feels heavy with an unknown feeling and she knows she needs to get to Paige, but her feet are rooted to their spot.
“Baby,” she hears her wife call out, followed by the sound of Paige’s footsteps climbing up the stairs, “you ready yet? The car’s already- oh my god baby what’s wrong?”
Azzi looks up from her phone to find Paige standing in the doorway. Concern floods the older woman’s sharp features as she rushes over to her, hands running all over Azzi’s body as she tries to figure out what’s wrong.
“Az? Baby? What’s going on? What happened,” Paige asks urgently, “baby please you’re scaring me. What’s wrong,” her eyes drop to the phone in Azzi’s hands as her voice gets desperate, “did someone say something? Do I need to go kill somebody? Fuck baby please don’t cry. Tell me what’s wrong? I swear I’ll fix it but you gotta tell me baby. Please.”
Wordlessly, Azzi hands over her phone. Paige’s expression is confused and apprehensive -maybe even a little preemptively angry- as she takes the device from her wife’s hand. Azzi watches as recognition dawn of the blonde’s face when she spots the familiar e-mail address; watches as her wife goes through the same emotions she had reading through the email. When Paige finally looks back at her, her own eyes are brimming with tears.
“Baby,” she says breathlessly, “this- I- we-,” she chokes back a sob, her voice so quiet in comparison to the loud enigma that is Paige Bueckers-Fudd, “we’re gonna be Moms?”
Azzi nods, tears continuing to spill down her cheeks as she finally manages to open her mouth, “yeah- yeah we are. Paige, we’re gonna have a baby. No two,” she corrects herself, remembering the exact words of the e-mail, “we’re gonna have two babies. Twins.”
And it’s unclear who moves first -it doesn’t really matter- but then they’re in each other’s arms, trying to hold each other as tightly as physically possible as their tears and smiles begin to blend into one. It had been a couple of months since they’d started the adoption process and they’d gone through every stage, slightly scared that something would go wrong. But they’d passed every background and family and personality check rather easily and it was this last part, the wait to hear about a child -well children- that needed them that had been the hardest of it. And now here it was, the last brushstroke that would complete the picture they’d started painting when they were fifteen. Two babies that would complete them.
“You’re gonna be such a good Mom,” Paige mutters against Azzi’s hair, “god Azzi, baby I can’t wait to see you with our babies -fuck- our babies. Fuck baby I don’t know what you got me but I’m afraid it’s gonna have to be second best Christmas present I’m getting this year.
Azzi laughs breathlessly, her face still buried in Paige’s neck, “think it’s gonna be the best Christmas present ever,” she slowly lifts her head so she can brush away the tears from under her wife’s eyes, “I love you. I wouldn’t wanna do this with anyone but you.”
Paige presses her lips against Azzi’s forehead, “me too baby. I love you so fucking much. You, me and our babies. It’s all I’m ever gonna want, all I’m ever gonna need.”
5. All I want (for Christmas is you)
There’s a lot going on in her house right now -the chatter of family and friends mingling with the sounds of Christmas Carols blaring from the speakers, the mixed aroma of a well-cooked meal and freshly baked desserts, the twinkly lights strung all around the house blinking in different colors- but Paige’s entire attention is across the room where both of her two children are hanging off of her wife like baubles on a Christmas tree. Miles is situated on her lap, his head buried in his favorite place, between Azzi’s neck and shoulder. Sienna, always slightly more independent, has one hand wrapped around her mother’s ankle while she sits on the floor, her focus squarely on a princess coloring book. It’s a sight that will never stop making Paige’s heart swell with pride and happiness, her wife with their kids.
Slowly excusing herself from the conversation she’d been having with a relative, Paige makes her way over to her family -to her whole world- with a soft smile on her face. She sits down next to her wife, placing a kiss to her temple that makes Azzi smile, before pressing one to her son’s forehead over the younger woman’s shoulder, before finally picking her daughter off the floor onto her lap and giving Sienna a kiss on her cheek.
“Hi family,” she whispers and she thinks that if she could choose to have one picture ingrained in her mind forever, it would be a picture of the three smiles she gets in return. Miles’s is sleepy yet so sincere, Sienna’s is toothy and wide and Azzi’s- we’ll Azzi’s is exactly like it’s been since they were fifteen. It’s her Paige smile, one that is bright and beautiful and magnificent and filled with the promise of i’ll love you forever.
“Mama look,” Sienna coos, shoving her picture in front of Paige’s face, “I color a p-incess.”
“It’s beautiful Si-Si,” Paige says warmly, “I think it should probably go on the fridge once everybody’s gone home yeah?”
Azzi snorts, her voice dropping so only her wife can hear, “baby, I don’t think there’s any more space left on the fridge considering you’ve been putting up every single thing they’ve ever colored or made.”
“I’ll make space,” Paige says haughtily, “everything they make is fridge-worthy.”
Azzi shakes her head fondly but Paige knows that despite her words, she’ll be right there by her side tonight to help her make space on their rather cluttered fridge so that they could hang Sienna’s new masterpiece somewhere on it.
“Mi’s close to falling asleep,” Azzi gestures to the little boy in her arms who’s clearly struggling to keep his eyes open, “I think we should probably let them open their Christmas Eve presents now.”
Despite Azzi trying to keep her tone to a whisper, Sienna’s ears perk up at the word “present” and she turns on Paige’s lap to face her Moms with large, hopeful eyes, “it’s pwesent time?”
“Yeah sweetheart. It's present time, but only one okay?” Paige taps Sienna’s nose gently, laughing when the little girl nods diligently and then squeals with excitement, rushing off of her mother’s lap so she can tell anyone within earshot that it’s time to open presents.
“I was gonna tell you to get everybody but I think she’s got it. She’s got your vocal chords for sure,” Azzi nudges Paige’s shoulder teasingly before coaxing Miles’ head out her neck, “you ready to open a present Mi?”
Miles yawns and Paige can’t help but coo at how cute he looks as he stretches in his mother’s arms. It fascinates her, how despite being twins, Miles and Sienna sometimes feel like they’re years apart. And she knows they're only 3 years old, and she knows that they’ll both change over time but Paige thinks that the difference in their personalities makes them fit together even more beautifully. Sienna had a protective streak, always ready to shield her demure brother and Miles had a knack from calming Sienna down, always ready to comfort his boisterous sister.
“MI,” Sienna yells as she tugs on her twin brother’s arm, having somehow already gathered their family into the living room, “wake up Mi. Time to open a Ch-istmas Eve pwesent.”
“I coming Si-Si,” Miles says softly as he finally waddles off of Azzi’s lap, tiredly rubbing his eyes as he follows his sister towards the barrage of Christmas presents underneath the tree. Their mothers scooch off of the couch to stand closer to the tree, Paige wrapping her arms around Azzi from behind as she hooks her chin over her wife’s shoulder.
“Alright Si-Si,” Tim says, his eyes twinkling as he looks down at his granddaughter, “remember, you should always pick the biggest present to open on Christmas Eve!”
Sienna’s eyes widen as she takes in her grandfather’s words before her gaze drifts towards the presents, scouting for the biggest one of them all. Paige drinks in the joy on her daughter’s face when she finally spots a large box that might just be taller than she is.
“That one!” Sienna says gleefully as she practically climbs over the rest of the gifts to get to her chosen one.
“Careful sweetheart,” Azzi calls out, her voice laced with hints of worry as she watches her daughter try to pick up the present that’s clearly heavier than she is.
“Uncle Drew,” Sienna croaks out, turning to Paige’s brother as she realizes just how big the present she’d chosen is, “help me pease!”
Drew laughs, wading through the sea of presents to get to his niece as he sedulously sits down to help her unwrap the gift. Paige tightens her grip around Azzi in anticipation as she watches for her daughter’s reaction. The twins are old enough this year to really understand their gifts and even though Paige is sure she knows them well enough -they’re her babies for fuck’s sake- to have gotten them present they’d love, she’s still a little scared they wouldn’t.
“Relax baby,” Azzi leans her head back to whisper into the blonde’s ear, having noticed the way Paige is fidgeting with the sleeve of the brunette’s sweater, “she’s gonna love it. She’s our daughter. We know her.”
Paige presses a delicate kiss against the back of her wife’s neck, “you always say the right thing.”
“Because I know you,” Azzi says softly, eyes crinkling in the corner as she smiles at Paige.
They’re broken out of their reverie by their daughter screaming in excitement as she finally uncovers her present -a barbie basketball court-, and just like Azzi had predicted she would, she says, “I love it, I love it, I love it. Thank you Mama, thank you Mommy!”
Paige and Azzi laugh, opening their arms in tandem for Sienna to rush into, “we’re glad you like it Si-Si.”
“I love it,” Sienna corrects as she gives each of them a sloppy kiss on the cheek.
“My turn now?” a meek voice cuts in and everyone's eyes fall onto Miles, who cowers slightly at having everyone’s attention.
“Yeah it is,” Paige grins at her son, tickling him lightly in the stomach before pushing him towards the presents, “pick whichever one you want to open Mi.”
Miles chews at his bottom lip, cautiously observing the huge pile of presents before turning to his Mothers’ with a way expression and Paige has to hide her grin, knowing exactly what he’s about to ask.
“Too many,” Miles says, bouncing nervously on his tiny little feet, “you help me pick pease Mama.”
Paige laughs as she gathers the little boy in her arms but not before she’s whispering in Azzi’s ear, “think he might be more indecisive than you baby,” which earns her a slight elbow to the stomach before she nods at her son, “of course I’ll help you pick sweetheart.”
She pretends to make a big show of searching for the right present, observing her son’s facial expression before she sees his eyes light up a little when she grabs a medium-sized blue one.
“Aha!” Paige yells triumphantly, causing all the adults in the room to snicker at her antiques, “think you should open this one Mi.”
Miles grins as he makes grabby hands towards the present in his mother’s hand. It takes him approximately four and a half seconds to rip off all the wrapping paper and his eyes marvel at the gift in his hands.
“Teddy,” Miles says in awe as he clutches the cuddly stuffed toy to his chest.
“Yeah it is baby,” Azzi nods as she kneels down next to the little boy, “here,” she points towards the blue heart on his chest, “how about you squeeze it?”
Miles does as he is told, squeezing the teddy-bear’s heart as tightly as he can and it starts to glow. Paige and Azzi’s voices ring out through the room, singing -slightly off-key- Miles’s favorite lullaby. The little boy’s eyes widen when he realizes the sound isn’t coming from his Mothers', both of whom have their mouths closed, but from the teddy-bear’s heart.
“Now, whenever you’re scared at night in your big boy bed, you can just squeeze teddy and it’ll be like Mommy and Mama are already there with you,” Azzi says softly as she brushes her hands through her son’s hair, “you like it Mi?”
“I’m gonna call it MoMa,” Miles says in lieu of an answer as he beams up at Paige and Azzi, “like Mommy and Mama but MoMa.”
Paige laughs, her eyes suddenly starting to feel a little wet, as she wraps an arm around Azzi’s waist, watching her children fawn over the presents they’d just opened. There’s plenty more left and she’s excited to watch their reaction to opening the others but the first ones are always just a little more special. And whether it was giving Sienna a basketball court, or giving Miles a version of their voices, through these gifts they’d tried to give their children a part of themselves.
“Hey,” Azzi snaps Paige out of her trance, her hand reaching down to intertwine with Paige’s as she begins to pull her away from their family, “come with me for a second.”
“Azzi Fudd,” Paige puts a dramatic hand to her chest, smirking as she follows her wife upstairs, “are you sneaking me into our bedroom to have a quickie? While our family and our children are right downstairs?”
Azzi  turns to her with a cheeky grin as they enter their bedroom, tracing a finger down Paige’s arm, “would you object if I was?”
“Abso-fucking-lutely not. Let’s do it,” Paige waggles her eyebrows, pulling Azzi into her chest but the younger woman immediately shrugs herself out of it as she goes into their closet instead, “oh okay then, leave me high and dry on fucking Christmas Eve.”
“Shut up,” Azzi chides, still rummaging through drawers before she finally emerges from the mahogany doors with a small silver box, walking back to Paige with a small smile on her face, “I figured you should get to open a present tonight too.”
“Well the present I was hoping to unwrap was you-” her joke is cut off by Azzi laughing.
“Baby please, you are way too old to be saying that shit.”
“Hey,” Paige says with mock offense, “first of all, I’m not that old and second of all, you’re never too old to be flirting with your wife.”
“First of all, it’s okay that you’re old baby, I like them a little older,” Azzi smirks, “and second of all, you are if the flirting's that corny and third of all,” she gives Paige a pointed look when the other woman open her mouth to counter, “shut up and open your present.”
“Still so bossy aren’t you princess?” Paige shakes her head but she does as she told, delicately removing the lid from the box and gasping when she sees the necklace inside, “baby, it’s beautiful.”
The necklace is similar to the engagement ring she’d gotten for Azzi, not the one from the fair all those years ago, but the real one. It’s a simple enough chain with a heart shaped diamond-encrusted locket, except on either side of the heart, the chain is looped into two infinity symbols.
“Open it,” Azzi says softly.
“What?” Paige asks, still staring dazedly at the dainty jewelry in her hands.
“The heart,” Azzi points to the locket, “it opens.”
Paige does as she’s told, delicately using her nails to pull apart the locket and a fresh set of tears brim in her eyes when she sees what’s inside. On one side of the heart is a picture of Miles and Sienna, the twins grinning at the camera and Paige remembers the exact moment she’d taken it. On the other side, is a picture of Paige and Azzi; specifically a picture of their kiss at their wedding.
“Baby,” Paige says again, uncannily lost for words.
“You’re really fucking hard to shop for you know that?” Azzi says slowly, her own eyes glistening with moisture  “like what do you even get someone who basically has everything because you know- like you always say- we’re your everything -all you could ever want is me, Miles and Sienna- and we’re already yours, just like you’re already ours. And so I figured I’d just give you a reminder of it, something you can always keep with you so you always know.”
“It’s perfect,” Paige breathes out as she holds the locker out towards Azzi, “put it on me?”
Azzi grins as Paige turns around and the blonde watches through the mirror as the chain is placed carefully around her neck and her wife firmly clasps it together before placing a soft kiss to the back of her neck.
“I love you,” Azzi whispers when Paige turns back around, “for eternity.”
“I love you,” Paige whispers back, pulling her wife flush against her chest, the locket with her world hanging between them, “to eternity and beyond.”

bf! chan x fem! reader: he comforts you during a mental health episode
pairing: chan x reader
genre: ANGST like seriously, turns into comfort at the end tho 🙏🏾
word count: 4.7k
warnings: graphic depictions of depression, anxiety/anxiety attacks, and psychosis (paranoia); self worth issues; general self-loathing
a/n: i wrote this in one sitting about six months ago and deliberated posting it, but it's almost the end of the year so i feel like i should release it. i used to feel so validated by fics where reader is depressed and gets comforted, but she was never as depressed as i sometimes was, so i drew a bit from life for this one. everyone please be safe and read the warnings <3
It doesn't start with the dishes. In fact, you think your therapist might tell you that it's not about the dishes at all, but about your own poor self-image, or lack of emotional regulation, or about a thousand other things that are wrong with the way you perceive yourself and the world.
The truth is that lately you've been sleeping way too late and waking up too early, and you're so tired that you can't eat, which makes you so hungry that you can't take naps. You're between jobs and the outlook hasn't been great, your best friend keeps blowing you off in favor of her new boyfriend, and just this week you found out that your favorite bakery is no longer making the souffles that you've been using as a pick me up since you moved into this building.
You don't do well with change, or rejection, or honestly anything, lately. You wake up stressed and you go to sleep stressed. You keep your phone on Do Not Disturb because you can't bear receiving notifications. Just today you've talked yourself out of taking showers twice, only to have a meltdown when you tried to sit on your bed because you felt too dirty to touch your own sheets. You sit on the floor instead. You eat a singular banana for lunch, just to make your headache go away. Your headache does not go away. You feel both unreal and painfully solid, sinking into the ground and on the verge of floating away.
Your boyfriend, Chan, keeps texting you updates about his day, and answering them feels like an exercise in performance art. You scroll through your previous texts to make sure you're adding the right amount of exclamation points, that you're using the same recent emojis. It's like cosplaying a happier version of yourself. A better version, a version that he could love, as opposed to how you are now: greasy and gross and plastered to the floor in your hallway. The idea of him seeing you like this fills you terror, or at least it would if you hadn't burned out your capacity for feeling things already.
A new message pops up.
Chan: Hey baby ❤️ Was thinking of swinging by tonight after work? I can bring dinner with me
Just the thought of eating threatens to make you vomit. You suck in a breath and hold it as you type,
You: If you want something specific go for it! I already started cooking but we could have it another time
Chan: I don't want to waste all your hard work. We can have what you're making. I'm sure it'll be delicious :)
You: I can promise edible. Delicious is up in the air rn 😭
Chan: I have faith in you even if you don't ❤️. I'll be there around seven today
You: Okay! I love you sm, see you then! ❤️❤️❤️
You lock your phone and throw it across the room. Why do you do this to yourself? "Already started cooking?" You haven't showered today.  Normally you try to deter Chan from coming over when you're having a freakazoid episode, but now you've basically invited him in? You have to be normal for an entire evening?
You fall on your back on the ground and put your hands over your face, blocking out the sunshine that insists on steaming through the cracks in the drapes. Your heart is beating so hard you worry you're going into cardiac arrest.
Get off the fucking ground, y/n, you tell yourself. You have to go cook dinner for your boyfriend.
"There is something very wrong with me," you say out loud, very quietly. The silence of your apartment swallows the words. They vanish, as if never said.
You get up.
It takes you two tries to make something even passing as edible. Your head is all over the place, and you burn batches of oil and veggies before you manage to stay in your body long enough to finish making anything. It takes an embarrassing amount of pans and spoons and bowls to make something that should be simple, and as dishes pile up in the sink you feel stupider and stupider. Why are you acting like you don't know how to cook? It's not hard to make some vegetables in stew. You don't know why it's taking every appliance in your kitchen and all of your concentration to execute such a simple task.
By the time you're done cooking, you've stressed yourself out enough that you're getting a tension headache. You close your eyes and brace yourself against the sink, rallying yourself.
Just do these dishes and then you can sit down, you think. Just one more thing.
You pick up a sponge.
You put the sponge down.
There is no way you can do these dishes.
It doesn't so much hit you like a train as the realization slowly creeps up on you. It's not that many dishes, really. It looks like a lot, because the pots and bowls are so large, but numerically there's very few items in your sink. It wouldn't even take 30 minutes to clean everything and leave it in the rack for later.
But that's not happening. The idea fills you with a cold and genuine dread, just as strong and perverse as when you'd tried to shower earlier, or sit on your bed. You can't turn on the tap because then the water will touch you, and it will feel Wrong, and then your whole body will feel Wrong, and then you'll die of Sudden Onset Wrongness. And now that you think about it, a lot of your anxiety today has revolved around water, and isn't that a symptom of rabies? Hydrophobia? Did you get rabies somehow? Would you know if you had rabies? Maybe that's the thing that's wrong with you- you're not depressed or insane or just a terrible person living a terrible life. You're just rabid. There's something eating your brain, and that's what's making you into such a fucking failure of a person.
While you're debating the possibility of brain-eating viruses, Chan comes home from work. You automatically turn towards him, a bright smile on your face, and rush to greet him.
"Hey, Channie!" you say, bouncing over to him with a pep you do not feel. "I'm so happy you're here!"
And you are, mostly. You love your boyfriend, really you do. He's loving and attentive, and he's never made you feel like anything less than the number one priority in his life. You have similar values and work ethics, which keeps you on the same page through most difficult periods in either of your lives and careers. You haven't been together long, but your bond is solid, and you really believe you're going to make it far together.
You also really believe you won't if he ever finds out what a complete nutcase you are. So you hide it. You grin at him and you appear light and joyful and easygoing and you brush off his concerns with adages and placations, and you redirect the conversation back to him, because you're a good listener and you love the sound of his voice and you much prefer that activity to any activity that involves you explaining how you laid on the floor for five hours and had an emotional breakdown while slicing cabbage. He has other things to worry about, other problems to solve without adding yourself to the list. You're supposed to be his respite, not another draining task. He doesn't need to know how hard it's been lately. You shouldn't have to say it.
So he doesn't. And you don't.
"Hey baby," he says. He sets his stuff down and kisses you in greeting. "How was your day?"
"Okay," you say. The answer feels curt, but you don't want to ruminate any more on your absolutely fruitless afternoon.
Chan doesn't comment on your strange answer. He takes his shoes off and hangs up his coat, and as he's about to walk past you he spots the mountain of dishes in the kitchen.
"Oh, were you about to do the dishes? I can do them if you'd like."
"You just got home," you protest. "You should go sit down."
"But you've been standing just as long cooking dinner, right? I should do my part."
His insistence is making something terrible expand in your gut. Instead of being flattered at his offer to help, his words feel like a violent condemnation. You should've done the dishes before he got home. You should've finished cleaning the kitchen altogether, so that he can relax in a clean environment. What kind of stupid fucking girlfriend are you, where you can't even do basic chores around the house?
"No, it's okay. I already psyched myself up to do them, so I'll do them."
Chan hums in a tone that's either playful or mocking, you genuinely can't tell which. "Okay, if you say so. Don't be afraid to tap out if the dishes get the better of you."
Great. He thinks you're so stupid you couldn't do the dishes if you tried.
You subtly regulate your breathing as you turn towards the sink. Chan disappears into the apartment out of view, and you give yourself thirty seconds to push your freak-out as far down inside you as you can.
"You're not an idiot, y/n," you tell yourself. "You can do some fucking dishes."
You reach under the sink and pull out some disposable plastic gloves. They make your hands look weirdly swollen and unfamiliar, as if they aren't your hands anymore. For a bizarre moment, you're convinced that they're genuinely not, that someone else's hands have been put on your body. You close your eyes so hard sparks fly in front of you.
Stop being crazy. Do the fucking dishes.
You turn on the water and pick up a bowl.
Chan reappears. You flash him a smile, but say nothing. Chan grins back, all dimples and crescent eyes. He's so handsome it makes you want to rip your own skin off. You thank God every day that you were born beautiful, because you could never have caught his attention with your personality alone. He'd be completely out of your league, and honestly, maybe he still is.
That thought gets shut down and pushed away. One crisis at a time. You don't have hands and you might have rabies, but you definitely have a boyfriend who loves you. There's no point in kicking yourself while you're down.
You turn back to the sink.
You cannot do these fucking dishes.
"Work was funny today," Chan says as he moves over to the stove and opens the pot.
"Mm?"
"Just some technical issues in the studio. Nothing serious, but it gave us some good bloopers."
You pick up a glass cup. You can see your reflection mirrored back at you in the curve, and your eyes are so wide. Have they always been that wide? Are your eyes drier these days than they normally are? You can't tell, because every part of you feels both dehydrated and submerged under water.
"This is really good, babe," Chan says.
You blink. "What?"
Chan holds up his bowl. "The stew. It's great. I told you it would be delicious."
You let out a pleased sound. "Thank you baby. Your encouragement really motivated me."
It was the wrong thing to say. You have no idea how, but from the way Chan's expression changes slightly as he looks at you, you know he's caught on to you acting weird.
"Is everything alright?"
Shit.
"With me? Yeah, I guess so. I've just been really tired lately."
"On the job hunt?" he asks sympathetically. It's like a stake in your heart.
"As always."
He wraps an arm around you and presses a kiss to your hair. "Don't worry, baby. You're super qualified in your field. You'll find something soon."
You need him to stop touching you or you'll start throwing pans at the wall.
"I hope so," is all you say.
"I know so. Just keep faith."
You hum again, noncommittal. It's like you're slowly losing the ability to speak. And the gloves are too tight and the water is so loud and you're nauseous and your head still hurts and it's probably not even the stress, it's probably the rabies, it's turning your brain into swiss cheese as you speak.
After another tight squeeze, Chan lets you go and retrieves his bowl from where he'd set it down. You hope he might leave you to go eat in the living room, but instead he hovers on the opposite side of the island, and continues telling you about his day. Normally, you'd love to hear the play by play of every crazy thing that happened with his group members and managers. Today, it's like nails on a chalkboard. The story is endless, keeps weaving around other anecdotes and tangents and you wish he would just shut up for one second so you can pull yourself together but you can't say that, because he isn't doing anything wrong, you're just being crazy, you're a bad and lazy girlfriend and you can't even put your own issues on hold long enough to listen to your boyfriend talk about his day. Everything is wrong wrong wrong, and you're Wrong and something is Wrong With You and it just keeps going it never stopswhy can't it all just stop-
"Y/N?"
Your name sounds like it's coming from a thousand miles away.
"Y/N? Are you okay?"
You turn to look at Chan, see his eyebrows pinched together in concern. You have no idea how long he's been saying your name.
Very calmly, you strip your gloves off and lay them to the side. You turn off the water.
"Sorry," you say. "Give me one moment, please."
You walk past him and down the hall to your bedroom, where you very calmly and gently close the door behind yourself. You climb on to your bed, filthy clothes and all, and pull two of the pillows from the end to rest on top of each other. You tie your hair back with a hair tie, press your face into the stack of pillows below you so that your whole face is covered.
And you just start screaming.
Screaming is therapeutic, apparently. Or at least, it's on the approved list of emotional regulation activities your therapist had given you. As long as you aren't screaming at anyone, it can be an effective form of release. It helps you release the tension from your core and focus that nervous energy into sound and action.
You scream into the pillow as loud as you can. You aren't sure how much it's doing to muffle your sound, but the belief that it's helping allows you to let go. It's tearing at your throat, the intensity of it. Once you start it's hard to stop, you just keep going and going and going, as if you're expelling demons.
When you finally peter out, you pause for a moment, then push yourself onto your knees. You're dizzy. Blood is rushing in your ears. It's oddly hard to breathe, as if you can't get enough air in your lungs. Even the fact of your own body is too much for you. You wish you could abandon it, just for a moment. You wish you could observe this from the outside so that you would better know how to fix it.
Eventually, your breaths calm. The buzzing recedes, leaving room for rational thought. And your chest feels....lighter. No longer is there a bomb sitting in your sternum, waiting to explode. The pressure has equalized. You look down at your hands, fisted in your bedsheets, and they look like your hands.
Cool. Cool cool cool cool cool.
You think you can probably do the dishes now.
Gingerly, you climb out of bed and make your way to the door. You open it, prepared to put your smile back on and apologize for your rude exit.
Chan is outside your door.
His eyes are wide with alarm. He looks stiff, hesitant. One of his hands is outstretched towards the door, as if about to knock.
Your face goes blank, wiring short-circuiting as you try to figure out what to say.
"Hey, y/n," Chan says, slow, testing. "Are you okay?"
Your script restarts, and a big smile automatically draws itself on your face. "Oh, yeah, I'm fine. Sorry about that. I just got a little overwhelmed."
"Overwhelmed?"
"Yeah. It's fine, though. Come on, you can finish telling me your story."
You grab his hand and try to pull him away from the bedroom. He doesn't budge.
"Will you tell me what's going on?"
You turn back to look at him. "Nothing's going on."
"Baby, I understand if you don't want to talk to me about it yet. But you don't need to pretend there's nothing wrong. You don't need to lie to me."
"I'm not lying."
"I heard you screaming in there."
Ice flushes through your body.
"Ah. Well, it's like I said. I got a little overwhelmed. I'm not hurt or anything. Sorry if I worried you."
"A little overwhelmed?" He's getting frustrated now, put off by your blase tone. "You look like you're on the verge of a nervous breakdown."
"No, I don't," you say, because you don't. You know what you look like when you get like this. You've trained your expressions so well that your face doesn't flush. Your eyes don't tear up. You have to look put together, because if you don't look put together then you can't convince yourself that you are put together.
"Y/n. I know you. I can tell when something's up." He sighs. "I've thought you were a bit distant for the past couple of weeks but I figured you would come to me eventually. But here we are, and you're having an anxiety attack right in front of me and you won't even admit it."
"I'm not having an anxiety attack."
"Love, I know what anxiety looks like. If you'd just let me help-"
"I'm not having an anxiety attack. I don't have anxiety. I would know if I did."
"Everyone has bad days and hard times, baby. You don't have to be defensive. I'm not accusing you of anything."
"You say you're not accusing me of anything after unilaterally diagnosing me with anxiety?"
Chan lets out a long breath. "That wasn't what I meant. I just mean-"
"You can't just assign me disorders when you decide I'm acting irrationally. You don't know my medical history. You don't even know me that well. You don't know if my behavior is normal or not."
"You can't be getting upset at me for 'not knowing you' when it's clear you're actively hiding things from me," Chan says, patience thinning. "I see you're in distress and you're picking apart my wording? I'm trying to help you."
"I didn't say I wanted your help."
"You're my partner! Of course I'm going to help you!"
"You can't!"
"Why not?"
"Because-" You choke on it and slam your lips shut.
Chan's face is drawn in irritation. He makes a go on gesture. But you can't go on. It's like the words are trapped in bubbling tar.
Your silence stretches. Chan sighs and drags a hand down his face in exhaustion. He'd gone out of his way to come visit you and now he regrets it. You've wasted his evening and ruined his mood. It's only a matter of time before he realizes you ruin everything. Hell realize he's drowning in all your mess and decide to save himself, and then you'll be alone again.
You draw in a breath of your own, but you're still lightheaded.
"Why did you invite me over if you didn't want me to see you like this?" he asks finally. "You don't have to see me every day if that's not what you want."
All the anger is gone from his voice. He's being so patient that your own stubbornness is acrid in comparison. You swallow, hard. Every muscle in your body is tense. You have the pull the words out of your throat with hooks, one syllable at a time.
"I wanted to see you," you explain, stilted and pathetic. "I thought I could pretend for long enough."
"Pretend what?"
That I'm not crazy. That I'm not falling apart. That I'm normal and easygoing and a joy to be around and definitely not rabid.
It's impossible to say. You don't know what's wrong with you, but you know that something is. You can't do the dishes. And you can't do this.
Your knees buckle and you sink to the floor of the hallway.
"Y/n?"
You don't respond. You're just staring straight ahead, all your thoughts whirring so fast that you're having trouble parsing any of them.
"Y/n? Hey, baby, sweetheart, can you look at me?"
You blink, and he's in front of you, on your level. He's trying to look calm but you can see the panic in his eyes. It only makes your chest tighter. You're dragging him down, you're cursing him. He needs to get out or you'll have his blood on your hands.
"We need to break up," you whisper.
Chan reels back like he's been slapped. "What?"
"We can't- we need to break up. I shouldn't have invited you over. I'm sorry."
"I..." Chan is at a loss for words. "You don't mean that."
But you do mean it. With everything in your body. "We can't be together."
"Baby, I don't know what you're thinking, but we don't have to break up if you don't want to. I don't want to break up."
You feel sick with his sureness. How can he claim to know you better than you know yourself?
"You don't get it," you say. Your tone is unnatural, words strange on your tongue. "We just can't be together."
"Can you tell me why you feel that way?"
"Just look at me."
"I am looking at you. And all I see is my beautiful, wonderful, perfect girlfriend who is having a very bad day and might be making some hasty decisions."
"Not a bad day. A bad life. I'm fucked up, Chan." The words come out with such a quiet malice that it shocks even yourself. "I can't even do the fucking dishes."
"I can do the dishes, love. I said it wasn't a big deal."
"No no no. It's not about the dishes." You're struggling to explain- the words are getting twisted, the thoughts all merge together- "I can't do anything. It's not about the fucking dishes. It's about- I can't-"
And you burst into tears
"I'm sorry," you say. "I'm really sorry. I just-"
"It's okay," he soothes. "It's okay. I understand now."
He doesn't. He can't, and you know that full well. You shake your head, vision blurring from your tears. You're so embarassed and it's making you cry worse. You think you must look so ugly right now. He must be repulsed by you. You're repulsed by yourself, your own misery making your skin crawl.
"Can I touch you, baby? I want to hold you."
You shouldn't. You'll infect him. You'll ruin him and take away everything that makes him good. Why is he even still talking to you? Why doesn't he leave?
"You don't have to-to feel obligated. I can just- if you give me a second-"
"I don't feel obligated," he says, patient but firm. "I love you. I want to hold you all the time."
Something in your chest cracks. You're so weak. It's pathetic. But you can't hold yourself back anymore.
"Please," you whisper, defeated.
Chan reaches out and pulls you into his arm. You're both still on the ground, but he rearranges you so you can hide your face in his shoulder, and you do, too humiliated by your tears to be able to look at his face. He presses a kiss to the top of your head and your traitorous body relaxes without your permission.
"You've been struggling for a long time haven't you?" he asks. "You didn't want me to pity you."
You don't say anything. You can't bear to.
"Well, I don't pity you. I think you're very strong, trying to deal with this on your own. You made me dinner today even though you didn't really want to, right? That was very kind of you to do. You take such good care of me, baby. You light up my life. Isn't it fair that I should get to take care of you too? Can't I return the favor by helping you now?"
"It's not the same," you mumble into his shirt, because the magnitude of the two asks isn't comparable. You chopped up some vegetables and threw them in a pot. He is witnessing you have a mental breakdown in your hallway. You're not equally yoked. It's too much to ask of anyone.
"Whether it's the same or not doesn't matter. Love isn't transactional. It doesn't have to be equal effort every single time. This isn't a favor I'm returning. I'm comforting you because you're upset, and I hate to see you cry. Do you believe me when I say I want to see you happy and smiling? That I would do anything to ensure it?"
You finally pull away from him, wiping away your tears on your sleeve. "You might have to go find a new girlfriend then," you say, voice cracking from the tears and the weight of your despair.
"I don't want a new girlfriend. I want you." He's hesitant, but he continues. "There are ways of getting help, you know. We can try some things, like therapy, or medication. I can help you. You don't have to feel this way all the time."
You shake your head. "I'm in therapy and on meds already. None of it really....works on me. I have fewer bad days than I used to but they still leave me like...like this. And they just drag on....it turns to weeks and months, and I can't....I can't do anything." You let out a shaky breath and make yourself stop talking. Even after all this, the urge to hold back is engrained in you. "You deserve better."
"I think I decide what I deserve," Chan says. "I know it's hard to open up about things like this, but what's worse than you being depressed is you hiding it from me. How can we work on this if you're pretending it's not real?"
"I wanted to be good for you. I wanted to be...to be easy."
Chan leans forward and cups your face in his hands. He looks you right in the eyes, and you see that they're glossy with their own unshed tears. "I don't need you to be easy. No one is. I just want you to be you. And I want you to let me be there for you. In everything. Including this. I want all of you. Do you think you can do that? Can you try?" He wipes away your tears with his thumb.
You swallow harshly. It goes against everything in you, everything you've taught yourself. Chan loves you. He wants to stay. Even though it may all crash and burn later, even though he might still turn on you or reject you or give up on you and declare this all a lost cause, right now he wants to stay. He believes in you. And you want to hold on to that belief as long as it lasts.
"Okay. I'll try."
A relieved smile stretches across his face.
"That's my girl," he says, and presses a kiss to your forehead. It makes something like pride settle in your chest, as if the part of you that cracked earlier might not stay jagged forever.
"Let's get off the floor, hmm? I feel like you might've spent enough time down here today."
You definitely hadn't mentioned that. Maybe he really does understand more than you'd thought possible. You don't know exactly how to feel about that, but you allow a bit of gratefulness to come through as he stands up on his own and reaches a hand down to pull you up. You wipe your eyes one last time, let out a breath, and take his hand.

Whenever I see people scrambling to dismiss the possibility that Jimin and Jungkook might be more than friends by resorting to arguments like “They’re brothers” or “Jimin said Jungkook is like his brother,” I can’t help but feel perplexed.
It’s genuinely baffling to me because, what did you expect Jimin to say? “Jungkook is my lover”? The lack of awareness in such arguments is striking, and honestly a little disheartening especially when it’s clear that many of these people haven’t taken the time to understand even the basics of queer history, the reality of being closeted, or the necessity of concealing relationships to protect oneself and loved ones in the face of societal prejudice.
When people bring up these points, I find myself asking the question “When did Jimin and Jungkook officially come out as a couple?” The answer, of course, is they haven’t. So why would anyone expect them to act in ways that are only possible for people who are openly out? If our (Jikookers) speculations about them are correct, it’s likely they are still closeted and may even be hiding their relationship from close friends and family.
This opinion might be unpopular, especially among jikookers who believe that if Jimin and Jungkook are together, their families would undoubtedly know. But I don’t think it’s that simple. In my experience, coming out isn’t an easy or universal process. It’s deeply personal and often influenced by cultural, familial, and societal factors, particularly in environments where homophobia is pervasive. I’m not going to go into the nitty gritty of why I think their parents and families might not be looped in because for many, unless you’ve lived it, known someone who has, or experienced such societal pressures firsthand, it’s difficult to fully grasp the complexities involved……..So I truly don’t see them letting their parents and families in on things as easy as many people believe it would be.
I think Jimin and Jungkook present themselves to the world as they believe the world sees them: bandmates, friends, and “brothers” from the same town. This aligns with public expectations and offers them a layer of protection. So how else would people expect them to describe their relationship?
Some might argue that they could avoid using terms like “brother,” altogether but let’s be realistic here……it likely doesn’t bother them. They know they’re not actually brothers and probably don’t view each other in that way. What’s more, I doubt they have any desire to let the public into the deeply personal aspects of their lives. While there may be a part of them that wishes to be accepted and loved for who they truly are, they likely understand that this isn’t a viable option right now.
The fear of opening a Pandora’s box of judgment and backlash likely keeps them from revealing anything beyond the surface. If calling each other “brothers” or even something as absurd as “father and son” ensures the safety of their bond, they’ll do whatever it takes to protect themselves and their relationship. That, unfortunately is what closeting sometimes entails so before you rush into my inbox thinking you’ve got a gotcha moment, remember this.
I hope people come to realize that this situation is far more complex than it seems. It’s easy to oversimplify or underestimate the challenges Jimin and Jungkook and other closeted people in homophobic societies might face but it’s crucial to remember that not everyone shares the same privileges or cultural realities. Not every society or culture is as accepting as yours might be. Not everyone has the opportunity to live their truth openly and without fear. You may not understand their choices, and you might not even relate to their struggles, but that doesn’t give you the right to dismiss or minimize them simply because their experiences don’t mirror your own.
Empathy and understanding are essential. Respect the fact that their journey, whatever it may be, is shaped by circumstances most of us can’t begin to imagine.

I take it that you live in the USA, do me a favour and realise one thing….not once have I mentioned people of colour…you have. For all you know I might be texting you from Zimbabwe or Russia. I might be black for all you know. I don’t see or judge people because of the colour of their skin, I am not a racist and I have lots of white, black, coloured who I call friends. I judge people on how they treat others so it doesn’t matter to me if you are black, white, pink, yellow, green, blue, indigo or violet. You have red blood running through your veins, capable of rational thought.
Have you seen 1st hand racial violence?….i have and it’s sickening, I have seen and witnessed ethnic groups and tribes hate each other for no reason other than the fact they can and believe that each other are not human.
You on the other hand, the way you come across, sound like a total ignorant racist!!!!
When it comes to the countries in Africa, unless you have actually lived there and experienced life there as I have for over 35 years then please zip your lips. Quoting to me about what other people have said means nothing, you need to live and experience life in the real world, have no food, no clothing, no employment and no money, no shelter let alone a house!!!
The same applies to the Middle East conflict. Read and learn your history about Israel, the Palestinian people and how they have been used and brainwashed to be totally anti Semitic. Arab countries such as Iraq, Yemen, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Libya and especially Iran have sworn to annihilate Israel not just off the map but to kill every single living Jew in the world. You probably owe your existence to Israel, they have contributed so much to the world since 1947 in science, biology, horticulture, technology, human rights and such. They are the current leaders in having people winning various Nobel prizes. They are the only country in the Middle East that has accepted people of any religion and are free to practice their faith without fear. There is no racial, sexual discrimination. You cannot say that for any Arab state. Most Arabs say they would love to live in Israel but just follow the propaganda of their government to avoid being imprisoned or having their heads cut off. Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt have so much to thank Israel for, they know it, so they keep neutral as much as possible. Israel controls the Golan Heights for a very specific reason, that’s where all the water for Jordan, Israel and Syria stems from. Syria had control but Israel took control because they were threatening to cut the supply to Jordan, Israel and would have wrecked the supply to their own country. Israel allows water to run freely into all these countries and the world accuses them of genocide.
Hamas and Hezbollah are terrorist organisations who want nothing more than to kill all Jews in any way possible, they have sworn to die in trying to kill Jewish people because they have being brainwashed in believing that the Jewish nation are nothing but scum and cockroaches and are to blame for everything that is bad or has gone bad in the world.
It boggles me to see you write down that you support terrorists, blood thirsty murderers who kill without cause or justification and please don’t say it’s because the Jews treat them so badly or kicked them out of their homeland. The peoples of Palestine were nomadic wonderers up until about the 1800’s when they lived in peace with the Jews who were living together in the land now called Israel. When Israel claimed independence in 1947, they offered 70% of the land to the Palestines…they refused. Land has been offered to the people of Palestine on 5 different occasions and every time it was rejected. All the aid sent into Gaza currently m, virtually all of it comes free from Israel. It is pillaged by the Hamas and sold to Palestinians for money they do not have and yet it’s meant to be free supplies to all. This includes medical help as well. It’s a well known documented fact that the UN have pro Hamas people working for them, some of them are known and wanted terrorists. Go figure!!
What did the Jewish nation do to warrant 6million citizens being wiped off the face of the earth in WW2, what did the Jewish nation do to be murdered, raped in the Russian pogroms in the 18th and 19th century, what did the Jewish nation do to be under the cosh of the Spanish Inquisition where hundreds of thousands if not millions of Jews along with thousands of innocent people were tortured to death and burnt alive at the stake. Through the centuries, the Jews have been persecuted, murdered and blamed for virtually every atrocity in the world and have been killed for it. October 7th, the nation said “NO MORE” babies were beheaded, children raped and sodomised, families wiped out. Not even animals do that.
As much as you are for and support known terrorist organisations, support their brutal campaigns of murder and destruction, I support Israel and their struggle to survive and to live free and in peace.
You don’t have to believe me if you don’t want to, but go through the history, research and find out.
98% of all wars in Africa are tribal, black against black….no whites, coloureds, Indians or any nation were involved. All political wars in Africa stem from unsolved tribal conflicts which have hit out of hand. One side always asks for help from foreign governments and in return they offer the countries mineral wealth as payment….you don’t believe me, but look at Zambia, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Congo….the Chinese have virtually taken over, all because they supplied the puppet government with weapons. The exact same thing has started in South America and South Africa.

Bruce: *reads The Song of Achilles*
Bruce: *snorts* What a load of mooning crap. I can't believe I spent three afternoons on this book.
Later:
Bruce: *sees Clark*
Bruce, thinking: When he dies, all things soft and beautiful and bright will be buried with him
Clark: *turns around* Hey Bruce!
Bruce (in his head): I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth.
Clark: You okay, Bruce?
Bruce, touching Clark: Your hair never quite lies flat, here. I don’t think I’ve ever told you how I like it.
Clark: uhhh....
Clark: So what have you been up to, lately?
Bruce, murmuring: I think I would know you in death, at the end of the world.
Clark:...
Clark: Is that Madeline Miller?
Bruce:...
Bruce: no
Clark: *laughing heartily* When I read it, I thought of you too!
Bruce: And you don't think that's the slightest bit gay.
Clark: *shrugs* If I was going to be gay, I would much rather it be with you.
Bruce: *looks stunned*
Clark: *smiles* You kissed me at Christmas. I might return the favor next time we're around some mistletoe.
Bruce: That might be a year from now.
Clark: *takes out mistletoe from one of his suit pockets*
Clark: Make your own luck, right?
Bruce, looking at the mistletoe: I'm not entirely comfortable with this.
Clark: Neither am I.
Bruce: I'm not a homophobe.
Clark: Neither am I.
Bruce: It's just something scary, is all.
Clark, shrugging: I'm sure Lois and Selina will understand, if you and I spend more time together. We don't have to do anything, we can take it slow. Or not "take" it at all. It's your choice.
Bruce: How are you braver than me? I'm such a coward. Always running from my feelings.
Clark: How can I explain, that when I am brave, it is due to you?
Bruce, looking up: I would rather die, Clark, than be hurt by you.
Clark, coming closer: I. Will never. Hurt you, Bruce Wayne.
Bruce, closing his eyes: Damn you. I am this close to running away to my room like some hysteric.
Clark: It's not being a hysteric to feel too much and be overwhelmed by that feeling.
Bruce: I am NOT overwhelmed!
Clark, smiling: Hey hey hey. We'll take it at your speed, okay? No expectations. No deadlines.
Bruce: Clark I feel like a teenager discovering himself for the very first time.
Clark: *smiling* We both dress like teenagers, Bruce. Is it a surprise that we occasionally act like them?
Bruce: You know what I was thinking? Thank god it's just Clark, and not someone whose opinion I actually have to worry about.
Clark: *hesitates*
Bruce: But now I realize, the only one in the League whose opinions I give a shit about, is you.
Clark: *goes pink*
Bruce: *picks at Clark's sleeve* You wanna come to my room? We can play GTA 6 like some actual brain dead teenagers.
Clark: Wait. GTA 6 is out? What?
Bruce: *winks* Not technically it isn't. But things tend to make exceptions for me.
Clark: You bastard! How long have you had it?
Bruce: Not very long, a couple of months?
Clark: *high pitched* Months? You've had it for months?
Bruce: Well...yeah?
Clark: Now I'm rethinking our starstruck romance. The fact that you would keep such an important secret from me...
Bruce: You really ARE a teenager, Kent. *strides away*
Clark, trailing after him: Can I play or was that an empty promise to lure me to your den?
Bruce: Forget it! I'm rescinding the offer.
Clark: No please daddy I'll be good...

For lords who are avoiding spoilers, please hit the button in the upper left corner to return.
………
At the request of the Grovaner family, we came to Slick.
The request was to find a man named Leo Force and dismantle the mafia.
A variety of circumstances led to us taking down a different mafia group… And now we are waiting for contact from Leo and his group.
But in the midst of that… Boschi and I were facing a crisis.
Mafia Men: Hehe, to think that we’d find you so soon.
Mafia Men: A new mafia group that crushed that large group… We have to strike before it’s too late, don’t we?
Mafia Men: That’s right. I’ll be taking the head of your boss right here and now.
Boschi stood protectively in front of me and confronted the men face-to-face.
Boschi: (Damn it… So they’re after Aruji-sama.)
Boschi: (I won’t lose even if I’m outnumbered, but…)
Boschi: (I don’t want to take any risks when it comes to Aruji-sama’s safety.)
Boschi: (I’ll have to watch their movements and be careful when attacking…)
Mafia Men: Hey now, don’t tell me… Are you getting scared?
Mafia Men: Then, don’t mind if we make the first move!
Boschi: Tch…!
Weapons in hand, the men sprung at Boschi.
Using his sword, Boschi knocked out countless of them.
Boschi: Come at me!
Thud
Mafia Men: Urgg…! This guy’s ridiculously strong…!
Mafia Men: Don’t let your guard down! We’ll beat him through numbers!
Boschi: (Tch… They’re weak, but there’s a lot of them…)
Boschi: (Since we’re fighting in an open space, it’s a big area I have to keep an eye on… One misstep will be dangerous…!)
Mafia Men: Bastard… Just drop dead!
Boschi: That’s my line!
Thud
Mafia Men: Ugaah…!
Boschi: (Damn it, they just keep on coming like cockroaches… How many of them are there…!?)
While being protected and hiding behind Boschi’s back… Someone suddenly pulled my arm.
> Wha…?
Mafia Men: Hahaha! Your boss’s head is mine!
Boschi: …!? Aruji-sama!!
In the next moment, the man that pulled my arm… Was struck in the wrist with a scabbard by Boschi.
Then, just as the man released my arm… Boschi kicked the man, and his body hit the ground.
Boschi: Hah… hah…
Boschi: Looks like he was the last of them…
Boschi: My bad… I wasn’t paying attention.
> Boschi, are you okay?
Boschi: Huh? That’s my line.
Boschi: Are you okay, Boss? Did he leave any marks where he grabbed you?
> I’m alright.
Boschi: Good… But it must have been scary, right?
Boschi: Let’s head back for the day. They’re knocked out, but who knows when they’ll wake up.
> G-Got it.
And so we safely got through the crisis and returned to the hotel.
【Slick - Hotel】
Afterwards we arrived at the hotel with no issues.
But rather than looking relieved… Boschi had a slightly serious expression.
Boschi: ……
> Boschi, what’s wrong?
Boschi: Oh… I was just thinking about the attack from earlier.
Boschi: I turned my attention away from you even if it was just for a moment… I’m reflecting on that.
> But you still protected me.
Boschi: …Yeah.
Boschi: But… It doesn’t change the fact that your arm was grabbed.
Boschi: I’m thinking about how careless I was.
Boschi: The fact that something like that happened today… Maybe it’s time to take a different approach.
Boschi: Fighting isn’t the only thing I can do to protect you.
Boschi: For your sake… I’ll do everything I can…
Boschi mumbled as if he was speaking to himself.
Boschi: Anyways… Today must have been rough for you, Aruji-sama.
Boschi: I’ll take you to your room, so get some rest.
Boschi: I’ll let the other butlers know about today's attack.
> Okay.
【Hotel - Bedroom】
-That night-
Knock, knock…
Boschi: Aruji-sama. Can I come in?
> Come in. > It’s open.
Opens
Boschi: Evening, Aruji-sama.
Boschi: It’s been a few hours since the attack earlier today, but… How’s your arm?
> It’s alright.
Boschi: I see… I’m glad.
Boschi: But just to be on the safe side, could you show it to me?
> Yeah.
I rolled up my sleeve and showed it to him.
There weren’t really any marks from where the man grabbed me.
Boschi: …At least it doesn’t seem injured. For now, I can relax.
Boschi: If he left marks on your arm… I’d probably get revenge on them.
> D-Don’t do that.
Boschi: Yeah, I know. I wouldn’t go out of my way to make contact with the guys who attacked us.
While saying that, Boschi rolled my sleeve back down… And gently massaged my arm over the fabric of my sleeve.
Then… He casted his eyes slightly downwards and mumbled something as if he made up his mind.
Boschi: I want to say that there’s no need for you to have a weapon, but…
Boschi: This too… Is to protect the kind you.
> Huh?
Boschi gently put my arm down and… Taking something out from his breast pocket, he set it on the table.
It had a dull shine to it, but it was unmistakably a knife.
Boschi: Aruji-sama, you might still be feeling shaken from the attack earlier, but…
Boschi: I’m gonna teach you some self-defense now.
Boschi: I’ll do anything to keep you safe.
Boschi: …That’s what I’ve decided.
Boschi’s eyes were sharp as he said this to me.
On the desk, the sharp knife’s blade glinted.
Chapter 2
The knife on the table dully glinted.
Boschi said he’d teach me self-defense.
I wondered if he planned on having me attack our enemies with a blade.
As I nervously stared at the knife… With a serious expression, Boschi opened his mouth.
Boschi: …Don’t worry, it’s not a real knife.
Boschi: Of course, maybe in the future… I’ll have you carry around a real knife.
I made no moves to pick up the knife, but Boschi continued speaking.
Boschi: …The other butlers might never tell you something like this, but… I’m not like them.
Boschi: I… I want you to have the strength to protect yourself.
Boschi: Of course, like we’ve always done… We’ll keep protecting you even at the cost of our lives.
Boschi: But just in case… There’s no harm in you learning how to fight.
Boschi: Being on the offense isn’t the best way to defend yourself, but… Maybe one day it’ll help save you.
Boschi: That’s why I prepared this fake knife.
Boschi: Teaching you how to use a knife… This is all to protect you.
> Boschi…
I knew that Boschi was being serious, but… I still couldn’t bring myself to reach for the knife.
I’m sure he intended on teaching me hands on how to use a blade.
If he teaches me how… Maybe the day when I’ll hurt someone will eventually come…
That frightened me.
Boschi: …… I know you're hesitant.
Boschi: But let me say this.
Boschi: Learning how to use a blade… Is also a way of protecting all the butlers.
> Protecting everyone…?
Boschi: Yeah.
Boschi: If we were being attacked by enemies…
Boschi: The butlers would definitely focus on you.
Boschi: Which means that… Our attention is turned away from the enemy in front of us.
Boschi: The chances of them taking advantage of that split second isn’t zero.
Boschi: Even if there’s only a one in a million chance of us losing to a human… I can’t say that it’ll never happen.
Boschi: So if you learn how to fight… You could end up saving our lives one day.
> Saving everyone…
I looked at the knife lying on the table once more.
The dull glint still scared me a little, but… If I picked it up, could I protect the butlers?
While I cautiously stared at the knife, Boschi quietly called out to me.
Boschi: Aruji-sama, I hope you’re not misunderstanding, but…
Boschi: When I said, “You could end up saving our lives”... I wasn’t trying to scare you into taking the knife.
Boschi: By taking the knife, you can protect us. I just wanted to give you that option.
Boschi: But if… If you’re really scared of taking it, it’s okay to say no.
Boschi: If it becomes a burden to you, then… It’s better not to take it.
Boschi: You’re gentle, so teaching you how to use a weapon is… Even I know that’s asking for a lot.
Boschi: If it becomes a burden, then… I’ll find a different way that suits you more.
To the me who was hesitating to take the knife, he gave me a way to back out.
It was unmistakably because of his kind consideration for me.
For the kind him and the other butlers… I want to protect them.
With those thoughts, I picked up the knife.
> Teach me how to use it, Boschi
Boschi: Aruji-sama… Are you really okay with this?
> Everyone’s important to me. I want to protect everyone.
Boschi: I see… Thanks for being brave.
Boschi: I’m guessing your motivation comes from… This being a way to protect us, huh?
Boschi: You really do care about us.
> Of course I do.
Boschi: Ha, that was a quick response.
You seem eager enough.
Boschi: Then, Aruji-sama… Let’s start your self-defense training.
Boschi: Today I’ll teach you the important basics. Make sure your head and body remember them.
> G-Got it!
And so, my self-defense training by Boschi began.
-A little later-
After that, Boschi earnestly taught me.
Boschi: So… That’s what you should do if your wrist is grabbed.
Boschi: Alright, Aruji-sama… Let’s try practicing now.
> Yeah!
Boschi quickly grabbed my hand, and I shook him off with minimal effort.
Thanks to him being a good teacher… I became able to do it reflexively.
> How’s that?
Boschi: You’re doing well. You’ve been able to do everything I’ve said.
Boschi: Next… Let’s try putting it to practical use.
> Practical use?
Boschi: Yeah. I’m gonna teach you a judo technique for restraining someone.
Boschi: It’s a bit difficult, but… If you do it right, it’ll stop your opponent from moving.
Boschi: First, I’ll show you how effective it is… I’ll do it on you.
Boschi: And using the knife you have… Try your best to break free.
Boschi: By doing this, you’ll also learn how your opponent will react to this technique.
> I’ll do my best.
Boschi: Nice response. Alright, let’s get started.
Boschi: Hold their left arm like this and tighten your hold…
Boschi: …Here!
The moment he said that… My body was completely stopped by Boschi.
I immediately tried to shake him off… But I was no match for his strength.
Realizing that I couldn’t do anything… He finally released his hold.
> (I-It’s finally over…)
But then… Before I knew it, I was lying on my back.
> Huh…?
I could see the ceiling behind Boschi… Who was hovering over me.
I finally realized that… He had pushed me onto the bed.
Tumblr media
Boschi: Geez… You were distracted, Aruji-sama.
Boschi: If you don’t pay attention, you’ll be cornered like this.
> U-Uhm…
While still pinning me down, his sharp eyes looked at me.
Boschi: So, what will you do now? Do your best to resist.
Although I was overwhelmed by this situation… I managed to pull my knife out from my breast pocket.
But I was hesitant to point the blade at him and couldn’t move fast enough.
I only hesitated for a moment, but Boschi didn’t miss it. He snatched my knife away and threw it on the floor.
> Ah…
Boschi: Now even your weapon is useless, but… You won’t just give up like this, will you?
Boschi: Come on… Let me see you struggle ‘til the end.
Saying this, he tightened his hold on me.
I knew that everything, his actions and words, was all for the sake of protecting me, but…
Being conscious of how we were closer than usual filled me with a different kind of nervousness.
> (H-He’s so close…!?)
Boschi: ……!
He must have noticed that I was acting strange…
He helped me sit up on the bed.
My face was still red, and I said nothing. Boschi stared at me with an apologetic look.
Boschi: …My bad, Aruji-sama.
Boschi: Even if it was training to protect you… I was too aggressive.
Boschi: And more importantly… I scared you.
Boschi: …I’m sorry.
> Boschi…
He looked somewhat frustrated apologizing to me.
Could it be that… He was angry with himself for scaring me?
When he was pinning me down… I felt shy, but not scared.
Boschi’s actions and words… I knew that he was doing it all to protect me.
I wanted to tell him that. I softly called out to him.
> I wasn’t scared.
Boschi: Aruji-sama…?
I wanted to tell him everything that I was feeling.
That I wasn’t scared, just shy…
I needed to muster the courage to say it out loud, but… No matter what, I wanted to tell him since he’s always so earnest when it comes to me.
> I wasn’t scared.
Boschi: Aruji-sama…
> And…
I didn’t want to point a knife at him… Even if I knew it was a fake one.
I didn’t want to direct a weapon at someone dear to me… When I told him this, his eyes became wide as if he was surprised.
Then… He gently smiled while gazing at me.
Boschi: Phew… So that’s what you were thinking.
> I’m not lying.
Boschi: Yeah, I know.
Boschi: I also know how much you care for me…
Boschi: …Thank you, Aruji-sama.
While saying that, Boschi began to gently stroke my head.
> B-Boschi…?
Seeing me confused… Boschi happily smiled as if to clear up the serious atmosphere.
Boschi: What is it, Aruji-sama? You can resist if you don’t like it, you know?
Boschi: I just taught you a technique to do so after all.
Boschi’s smile as he said this was mischievous, but… His hands felt gentle.
It was a bit embarrassing letting him stroke my head, but it felt very nice… I didn’t want to shake off his hand.

People do realise he only got back from Nepal & a very big strain on his body and organs like a week ago??? Questioning him reposting at 1.30am or 3am means nothing. His sleeping is going to be messed up for weeks. Also reposting stuff twice is an easy mistake, he’s probably exhausted and forgets which he’s reposted as confusion can happen when re-acclimatising to normal altitude and reality after that. Goodness me the man can’t just do normal things without everything getting picked apart
Tumblr media
Oh Anons, especially Anon 2.... I think you'd gonna explode if you saw my inbox. You only see the bit on other blogs and ignorant people making assumptions and acting surprised about something, getting outrageous about something that they could have known already for a while..... if you pay attention to the right things that is, not to the things that do not matter at all. 🙄
Yes, I agree very much, that trek he did, the affects it has on your body, it doesn't matter how well you are trained or how much you always live in a jetlag style off life, it has a strain not only on your body also on your mind as well. Just go figure it's not for nothing he waited to take that opportunity after he had no more responsibilities and ties for a series he has been working on for all these years. And we all know this is something he always wanted to do.
Also agree on how he shared his wonderful experience together with the posts of Jake N. I loved to explore the maps to see where and how they went, look up pictures and places, read about the challenges. And then read it first hand from the ones who really did it. What a nice change from all the booze advertising, but even more what a welcoming change in my inbox. I pretty much enjoyed the calm, apart from that one persistent Anon that kept on going on and on about........ Ash.
Yes really even then, no need for me to check her IG as I would have a daily reports about what she posted together with the most biased opinion about it, of course all in the most extreme negative way. Get a life, get a hobby... that's what I would shout at this Anon's face in real life. What poor life do you have if this is your daily business and you keep on writing to me to get it out of your system even if I do not post any of it. Yes, I chose not to post or give it any attention in here... because I just know how giving this air is only gonna make it worse!
You know it's always the sort of people that are determined to judge about someone else's life, they always know what is best for you, they even think they know better what is best for you than yourself. Even though they do not walk in your shoes or see the sun and the moon like you do. And when you do not choose the path they think is best for you.... well.... yeah, that! Talking about getting picked apart Anon 1, and agree Anon 2, this whole agenda people have with him is so unhealthy
Anyway I could have predicted, I did in fact predict exactly two weeks ago what my inbox would look like today. How it would flood with messages about 'Ash this', and 'Ash that', and the 'no doubt he must be' and the 'are you still sure about...' exactly the way it did beginning this year with Sarah H. And here we are again, nothing changed.
Boom Ash is in London! - Sorry, no not Boom as if lightning struck, she announced it already 2 weeks ago people! And not only that, a week later she also announced she was gonna be in Glasgow. These are the stories of 13 and 20 December!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So how is it any surprise to people now? Oh wait, yeah you didn't see those stories, you just see what is now. Oh she's in London, oh he posts late a story and twice the same one.... must be... right, no doubt... Can't be anything else now can it???
Yes Christmas Day she posts from London (and before you ask no that is not Sam's hand)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as well as Boxing Day
Tumblr media
And let me help you here a bit, location Dear Jackie at Broadwick Soho. for the ones unfamiliar, yes that is the same location the Flute is in, remember that weird 'launch' party organised by Flaunt magazine and MGMplus UK?
And then OMG she turns up in Glasgow posting from EDA... oh wow. Let's just throw out all common sense and make things fit a certain narrative. Let's just simply ignore how Sam has been posting all Christmas Day constantly from 7am until after 11pm. Because that's what you do when you try to hide you're in London secretly meeting up with somebody who announced her presence there weeks ago. Right? Let's just pay attention to the fact he posted at 1.30am and 3am the night after Boxing Day (where he also posted almost all afternoon). Let's just conveniently forget that there are a ton of other options, like going out with other friends in Glasgow, or having some good times with family like his brother and newly wed wife f.i. or falling asleep on the couch while watching Netflix (his latest follow on Christmas Day) and I can think of lots of other options.
Nope, we just go by the one option that fits our narrative, right? Cause we all want some entertainment, and so we just claim he was with her in London without a shred of evidence, not even a voice or hand to be recognized not even a matching cloud on the horizon. And my persistent Ash-Anon (how I call her) is all satisfied as she get's her way with all the attention she so hard tried to stir in this fandom and now she can accuse him again of all kind of mischief.
Yes, my inbox keeps flooding, even while I write this post. I already lost count. The weirdest things, because... you all take this one narrative as a basis and lose all sense of reality focussing on minor things that do not matter and by ignoring things that do not fit the narrative and other simple options and things like:
You really think Sam would fly one day to London while knowing she would be in Glasgow the very next day? Especially after a trip that wasn't peanuts and had its strain on his body and mind? That he wouldn't spend time with family and friends in these holidays after that trip but run to London cause his employee is there all alone? And gosh why would they not meet up at some point, have a drink or dinner or whatever together while she's in town, why would he say no? Is that in any way proof he started to date his employee, or have some hidden relationship with her?
Even though it is a bit awkward how Ash pushed herself into his circle of friends, is it that strange she'd go to EDA to work out? Is it strange that when she follows 3.231 (and we thought Sam follows a lot!^^) that it she follows a lot accounts mutually as Sam does? And by following them, are they suddenly all her friends as well? Do you really think Ash never traveled before in her job representing the Jagermeister brand? Like she doesn't know anybody else in London but the people and places connected to Sam? Like she doesn't know anybody else in Scotland but Sam? (what about Shiobhan who became her bestie?) But nooooo... she traveled to the UK during the holidays, she can't have anything to do in the UK. She can't have any other friends there who told her about hogmanay in Scotland perhaps? Oh wait, that doesn't fit the narrative, let's just skip that, okay? Because then we have entertainment and we all can go on telling how somebody else must live his or her life, because we all know better than themselves.
Why do you all care?
You know what? I'm just gonna leave it at this and post this song with the lyrics. As they apply to all of us
youtube
Because, you know we're all just passengers in this world, much unlike those high mountains that are here forever to stay. Tomorrow or next year, it will be all the same, Just another drama and another name, Another fight who's right or wrong, And they all forgot about yesterday... when we were young!

want a guy who gets into my head and rearranges it without me knowing. someone i really, genuinely trust, maybe someone ive known for years. when i need comfort, i go to him. he always knows the right things to say.
thats why id go to him if i ever broke up with a girl.
and im someone who likes touch— hed know that. im sitting on his bed while hes bent down, brushing my hair behind my ear. hes so sweet, it makes me emotional all over again.
“theres nothing to worry about anymore," he whispers in a low voice, soft on the ears. its easy to listen to, i cant help but lean closer. his hand rests on my cheek.
"im here, hun. you dont have to think about it." its quiet in his room, just the ticking of his alarm on his nightstand, rhythmic in its clicks. soothing to listen to paired with his voice.
"in fact, you dont have to think about anything," he says, staring into my eyes. my head tilts. "we can stay here for a while. you can just relax, i know its all stressful." i find myself nodding. "so, you dont have to think."
"i dont have to think?" he smiles encouragingly.
"thats right. no need to."
"sounds... kinda nice."
"it does, doesnt it?" his hand moves to trace small shapes and circles on my thigh, just barely grazing the surface. "not a care in the world, nothing weighing your mind down. like your mind is a clear blue sky; all the clouds just slip away."
"mmm," i nod again. see, he always knows what to say.
"and since you dont have any thoughts to focus on, all you need to focus on now is your breathing. slowing it down, keeping it deep." my breaths start to follow along, and my eyelids start to get heavy. he gives me another smile as he watches them flutter. "thats alright, you can close them. you could picture that clear blue sky. the warm sun on your skin, making your body and mind melt slowly, dripping down."
dripping down, melting, warm, it all sounded so nice. all i wanted was to follow his voice into that sun, let it... "...envelop me whole, taking away anything left weighing me down." i feel my head slowly fall toward his shoulder, landing in the crook of his neck. his arms wrap around me.
"no girls, no exes, nothing like that here. just you and me. everything else just slips from your mind like they werent even there to begin with."
like they werent even there to begin with.
~~~
i dont remember how long i stayed, but it was dark when i left. i came over the next day-- i had nothing better to do, i knew id just wallow in my room if i was given the chance. i felt like being with him would make me feel better, and next thing i knew, he was welcoming me in through the front door. he already had calm music playing in the background and warm tea set out for both of us. he sat me on the couch and passed over blankets to bundle myself up in before sitting down next to me. we talk for hours. the time just passes me by so quickly.
"i dont know why you only ever dated girls," he said, laughing a bit. i frowned.
"i... ive been a lesbian all my life. ive only ever wanted to date girls."
"well, sure, but nothings ever really lasted, has it?" im taken aback, straightening in my seat a bit.
"im sorry? does that matter?"
"relax." my back fell to the cushions again without thinking. "youve always been so much closer with guys. i dont want to assume anything, but you just get along better with men, isnt that right?” i stare at my mug, feeling his words sit in my mind for a moment. i guess he had a point.
“i guess. doesnt mean ive ever wanted to date them.”
“doesnt mean you arent compatible with them, though,” he grinned, taking a sip of his drink, before looking at you seriously. “i just want you to find the right person. there wasnt any love in your last relationship, you told me so.” i dont really know what hes talking about, but i dont know what to say, so i stay quiet. “i know you. i think a man would be able to love you much better than any girl could. arent you even the least bit curious?”
i couldnt help but admit that, after hearing him ask about it, i kind of was. i nodded.
“maybe after a bit. well see. i need some time.” he nodded and placed a comforting hand on my shoulder.
“its okay, i get it.” he turned to the window, seeing how dark it was. “its pretty late, how about you just rest on the couch? its been an emotional few days. i could make breakfast in the morning.” my head was already lolling to the side at the idea.
“that sounds good. thank you,” i look into his eyes, “really, thank you. this all mean a lot, youre always there for me.”
there was a look in his eyes that i couldnt make out.
“exactly, hun. now,” he passes a pillow, “you rest, and ill wake you in the morning.”
as he left, he changed the music playing in the background to something slower, deeper. it seemed to worm its way into my head quickly. i fell asleep before i could even think about it, feeling him pull the blankets a bit tighter around me.
~~~
i ended up staying for a few days. i didnt know what id do if i left— its not like i had a girlfriend to run to anymore. so i rested at his home, even when he left for work. he always insisted.
“i promise im fine with it, hun,” hed say. “besides, im a good friend. what are good friends for?”
there wasnt much to remember about each day; they passed like syrup or molasses, and trying to think back on what happened felt like wading through the sticky mixture. when he went to work, i listened to the radio he had in the living room— he had a cd rack full of albums by people and bands id never heard of, but each track kept me more and more peaceful. when he came home, time was fluid. it didnt exist.
i was close with him before my breakup, and even closer now. ive found weve gotten closer physically as well, like somethings changed in our friendship. i hug him more, we half cuddle on the couch. ive even started holding his hand every so often. the touch, the connection between us just centers me so well.
his words, too. theyre soft. they find their way into my head and sink into my being somehow. i dont know what hed do without me.
were having a meal in the kitchen. i finished but just wanted to sit with him longer.
“gosh, how long has it been since your breakup?” he asks, bringing a fork to his lips.
i stop for a moment. i try to think. my breakup was…
i dont know. i dont know when my breakup was or how long ago. i dont even know what day or month it is.
“ah, doesnt matter,” he laughs. and suddenly, it didnt matter.
“have you thought more about it all? dating guys?” i played with my hands. i had. a lot.
and it was with him.
i dont know what it was. maybe it was the proximity, or the kindness, or the looks, or an amalgamation of all of it. but when i sat around all day, the only thing on my mind was him.
the warmth he brought when he sat next to me in our deep conversations at night. the soft touches. the smiles he would give me. just thinking about him now had me staring at his hands as he used his utensils. large hands, hands id like to hold, hands that could hold me tight, hands to undress me and suck on and use to—
“well, have you?” he says, breaking me out of my daydreaming.
“uhm. a little bit.”
“a little bit? no, youve been talking about it a lot more recently, isnt that right?”
i shook my head for a moment, trying handle the fuzzy sensation that flooded my brain. it was hard to remember what i was talking about now.
“i know i go on and on about dating guys now, but… i just want to wait for the right one to come along.”
“hmm,” he hums, nodding thoughtfully. “im sure youll find him soon. what kind of guy are you looking for?”
“i dont know, someone who really cares for my needs. when i dated women, they never really understood what i wanted. a man would know best about what i need in a relationship.”
his eyes gleamed at what i had said. i dont know what cued it, though. i was just being honest.
“tell me more.”
“dating men would just be much simpler for me. i cant love a woman, but i can serve a man.”
something didnt seem right, but the thought fell away into the pervasive fuzziness. his eyes looked so beautiful right now, all i could do was stare into them.
“thats right, you can serve a man. did you ever love women to begin with?”
i think back on all my ex girlfriends. i think of our intimacy, our dates, and i feel nothing. i think of what i could have, and all i feel is love for him.
“no. no, i never loved women. i could never be attracted to one. i…” my words drifted off. i was supposed to say something there. what was i supposed to say?
“youre straight, arent you, love?”
oh. that felt different. straight. i found myself starting to grin. straight, i… i was straight.
“im straight.”
“say it again for me.”
“im straight.”
“again.”
“im straight.”
“good,” he says, “good girl.”
my brain melts from my head. theres not much to think of past that.

WIP excerpt for this-was-a-terrible-idea behind the cut, who gave me dealer's choice and is therefore getting “but it’s weird that it happened twice”. (( chrono || non-chrono ))
“HEY SO MRS. FENTON DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE, UH, THE SHARK GHOST DOWNTOWN, SOMEBODY TOLD ME THEY SAW IT CHASING SOMEBODY’S TESLA DOWN THE STREET EARLIER,” he interjects very quickly and very loudly, throwing his hands up to point towards the road. Mrs. Fenton immediately laser-focuses in on him and whips a bazooka-sized ecto-gun out of literally nowhere, which is a trick Tucker seriously needs to learn one of these days–seriously, how does she do that–and Mr. Fenton sticks his head into the kitchen doorframe.
“A Tesla-eating shark ghost?” he asks, looking like Christmas not only came early but also brought Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July along. “Tucker! I realize young love is a powerful force and your girlfriend is clearly adorable, but my god, boy, why didn’t you lead with that?!”
“Which street?!” Mrs. Fenton demands, and the fine art of bullshitting off the dome saves Tucker once again as he says, “Uhhh, I think they said Vine, but maybe it was Pine?” and Mrs. Fenton immediately barges straight out the front door right between him and Superboy. Tucker very quickly steps back to make sure there’s enough room for the inevitable follow-up as Mr. Fenton barges into the living room carrying the chained-up and struggling refrigerator over his head as it screeches like the unjustly damned.
. . . Tucker takes an extra step back.
“Tell Jazzy and Danny we’ll be back for dinner!” Mrs. Fenton calls back to them, waving cheerfully from the driver’s seat as she cranks the van to life–or maybe, uh, half-life, depending on what the newest engine mods are running on, though Tucker hasn’t actually had a chance to ask yet–and Mr. Fenton only takes a couple chunks out of the doorframe as he runs out after her and right into the back of the van with the screeching fridge. “Lovely to meet you, Cam! Is that short for something?”
“Cameron,” Tucker lies, because it’s still gender-neutral and Ancients forbid that Superboy ever realize that the thong leotard clone chick in combat boots was his first thought in this situation.
“Oh, that’s lovely! Suits you, dear!” Mrs. Fenton says brightly, then slams the van into drive and tears off down the street, engine–and fridge–both screaming the whole way down the block. She does not take a single traffic law into account in the process.
Tucker and Superboy are left alone on the front step in front of the slightly-smashed doorway where Mrs. Fenton just assumed they were dating and also that Superboy was, like, crossplaying or whatever, and Mr. Fenton saw literally zero reason whatsoever to doubt that misconception. Tucker was legit not even aware that Mrs. Fenton knew crossplay existed, much less knew it was a common thing. He’d already thought “cosplay” might’ve been pushing it, in fact.
The awkward silence is . . . real awkward, yeah.
“. . . Vine Street and Pine Street are on opposite sides of town,” Tucker explains awkwardly, on account of, like . . . everything being awkward right now. “So, uh, that should keep ‘em busy for a while.”
The awkward silence does not stop being awkward.

Have you noticed how both Percy Jackson and Cardan are often characterised as dumb and Cardan weak because they love their significant others? I think this is some weird sort of misogyny because 'only weak men will love these women' when that's simply not true!
Tell me if I'm crazy lol
You're not crazy. This is a real phenomenon that needs to stop.
The PJO fandom tends to dumb down Percy a lot and hype up Annabeth, when in reality it is Percy who comes up with brilliant strategies and fights very well. It seems to me that people think Percy is foolish and/or impulsive because he doesn't communicate his plans very well.
It's frustrating to read canon PJO and then go to the fandom PJO and see how much Percy is dumbed down. Even canonically, Percy is put down a lot-unfortunately, I think this is because Rick is influenced by the fandom, which he should stop.
In fact, Annabeth would have died without Percy. LOTS of people would have died without Percy.
Thankfully, there are many people who DON'T dumb Percy down, like @cynthiav06, @hermesmyplatonicbeloved and other people-I forgot the blogs, tell me if you want to be tagged.
Check out the blogs I mentioned above if you want Real Percy, not dumb Percy who's not even real.
And this happens with Cardan too.
All right-I will say it again and again.
REAL CARDAN IS NOT A DUMB, HELPLESS UWU POOKIE!
HE IS POWERFUL. HE IS SMART. HE IS CUNNING AND CAN RUN AN ENTIRE KINGDOM WITHOUT JUDE OR MADOC.
I think most of the TFOTA fandom forget that Cardan did, in fact, run the kingdom without Jude or Madoc between and at the beginning of The Queen of Nothing!
And he's no helpless pookie. Does ANYONE remember the scene in TWK where the sea mermaids and their retinue come and read the poem that's a threat in disguise?
Does anyone remember how Cardan reacted? I DON'T THINK THEY DO!
He did NOT whimper or look to Jude for help. Jude DID NOT step up and deal with things directly.
Cardan dealt with it. He gave a clever response and effectively dealt with it while remaining powerful in the eyes of his subjects. Jude herself notes how powerful he looks in that scene.
And his meeting with Orlagh? He looks and feels regal and intimidating, like a true ruler. He saves his kingdom from war, literally threatens to encase Nicasia in a tree to keep Orlagh in check like a true boss, is prepared to fulfil his theat and calls up AN ENTIRE ISLAND. AN ENTIRE NEW ISLAND, LIKE THE THREE ISLES, EXCEPT NOW IT'S THE FOUR ISLES.
And he also comes up with a smart plan for Jude's safety, thus ensuring that she can come back when she wants to. It's not his fault that she interpreted it differently and chose to ignore the real meaning when she finally found it.
And in The Prisoner's Throne when he saves Jude from the knives? 100 percent amazing scene. He really has a heavy regal ruler aura there. My favorite scene of Cardan.
Yet fandoms need must girlbossify the females and woobify the males to make us see that the females are oh so powerful and the males need them for everything apparently.
The fandoms make the males characters that are entirely dependent on the females and don't exist without them. And I can't emphasize how frustrated this makes some of us.
Annabeth is smart on her own without Percy and vice versa.
Same goes for Jude and Cardan. They deal with threats in their own effective ways, though said ways are different-but those ways still work for both of them.
This is a reverse form of misogyny that is still sexism to both males and females and this really needs to stop. Whenever a couple get together, people tend to not see them as equals-either the male or the female is dominant, and if it's the female, she has to be oh so strong and muscular and dark and serious while the male has to be soft and submissive to her at all times, oh noooooooooo.
Not to say that muscular and masculine women CAN'T be dominant, but please remember that this is not always the case. Submissive partners are not always soft and feminine, and dominant partners don't always need to be commanding and aggressive.
Being equals in a relationship is a big charm, and that's why Percabeth worked so well for a lot of people. That's a huge part of their charm. To take that away would be to push what made Percabeth good into an abyss and watch it disintegrate.
TFOTA fandom members, please remember that Cardan is a person on his own without Jude. Same goes for Percy and Annabeth, PJO fandom members.

Part 7:
Warnings: Violence
Kamazo seemed to be more mindful with you after that. Even when the dark look entered his eyes, something was still present to prevent him from being overly rough with you. You kept traveling north, and as it got colder, he stayed closer to you and helped block the wind. He brought you a heavy cloak to keep you warm and if it snowed, he held you steady in the slippery areas. Perhaps the most shocking, he started talking more, asking about you, telling trivial tidbits about himself. You learned he particularly loved anything noodle-based. It made the long traveling times more bearable. He wouldn't answer anything on a deeper level, so you stopped asking. He only got upset with you once, when you asked about family. That made him go silent for a day or two. A handful of times you had to stop to be sick, but he didn't seem to mind. He held your hair back if you needed it and gave you water to rinse your mouth out. Even though you ate the same things, he didn't seem affected. It was probably your body getting used to eating more and richer foods than you had been previously. Now, Kamazo and yourself were traveling between towns, through an open snow field.
"Are you okay?" Kamazo asked.
You wiped your mouth on the back of your hand after retching, yet again. "Yeah. It's just the food."
"Something's wrong with my cooking?"
"No! I love your cooking, Kam." You offered him a coy smile and continued. "I think my body is still getting used to it."
"It's been months."
"Yeah."
"And you weren't like that in the beginning."
You shrugged. "I don't know. What else could it be?"
Kamazo eyed you, contemplating something. "Come here." He lifted his arm so you could be pulled into his side, with his arm resting on your shoulders. "You know I will take care of you, right?" There was a shred of something unfamiliar in his eyes, a warmth you had seen flicker once before, when you had asked about family. This time, he wasn't angry.
"You have," you replied, unsure of where he was going with this. He had never been sentimental before.
"...I'm speaking of the future, Sparrow."
"I don't understand."
"You, me, ...and-"
Kamazo held his finger to his lips. In a flash, there was a man covered head to toe in black that seemed to come from thin air. Before you could scream, the man handed something to Kamazo, and disappeared as fast as he had materialized. Kamazo didn’t seem fazed by the apparition, in fact, he seemed to be expecting it. Kamazo opened the thing that was handed to him, a note of some kind. He read it and let the breeze carry it away from his open palm.
Kamazo never finished what he was going to say. The note seemed to change his demeanor. The coldness was back, and the darkness was creeping in. He seemed to be in a rush after that, letting you ride on his back while he trudged through the snow. You had been slowing him down considerably. He stopped when you came upon the stump of an old, large tree. It was hollow and big enough for a person to shelter in it. Kamazo set you down, wrapped your cloak around you tighter, and left some dried fruit for you to snack on.
“Be good, Sparrow.” He touched your cheek.
You nuzzled into his hand and nodded.
Hours had passed and Kamazo had not returned. This happened a lot, but there was an unsettling feeling within you. There had been some loud noises and metallic clanging in the distance, with silence afterword. You waited as long as you could bear it. Your heart squeezed in your chest and you were beginning to get anxious. At the risk of being scolded, you decided to look for him. What if something had happened to him? You weren’t sure what you could do for him if something had happened. You tried not to think about it.
You followed his footprints through the snow. A few times, you had to sit and catch your breath. Soon, you noticed there were additional footprints, an adult and a child. The child’s footprints disappeared after some time, with only an adult’s left. The adult’s footprints seemed to get farther apart, like they were running. Running from the bigger footprints? Kamazo’s footprints? You followed with a bit more haste, hesitating only when you considered you might come upon him killing someone. You didn’t like seeing him like that. Even though you knew what he was, you could imagine him being someone much more, friendly, affectionate, maybe even loving. You could sense that it was tucked down deep within him, buried in the personality that took over when he was working.
In the distance, you could make out a bridge. Closer, there was a shape on the ground, lightly dusted with snow. Your heart dropped when you saw the familiar fabric of Kamazo’s clothing sticking out. You hyperventilated, seeing red staining the white snow.
“Kamazo!” You struggled to run through the deep snow, falling once on the way to him. You dropped to your knees at his side. “Kamazo! Kam!”
You brushed the falling snow from his body and attempted to flip him onto his back. There was a pool of blood under him that made your actions increase in desperation. No matter how hard you tugged and pushed, you could not budge him. He was solid muscle and much bigger than you. You panted and strained until you couldn’t try anymore. He felt colder. The only thing you could do now was to share body heat and hope that someone would find you. Even then, what would they do with you? Kamazo was a murderer, too many crimes to ignore, and you were a whelp of a person, made to ignore.
“It's me, Kam.” You tried to keep your voice from shaking as you laid next to him, partly on top of him, and spread your cloak to cover both of you. "It's your Sparrow."
It was cold. Being still in the brisk wind and snow had sapped the warmth from your bones. You pressed yourself closer to Kamazo, shivering uncontrollably. Each minute that passed, you were reminded of how useless and weak you were. When it mattered, you couldn't do anything. Maybe this was how you could repay him, keep him warm until someone finds him. Even if you died of hypothermia in the process, it was worth it. You enjoyed the short time he had given you, being truly alive.
When night set in, it was much colder than you thought possible and your eyes fought to stay open. They never strayed from Kamazo’s face. He didn’t so much as twitch. Your lips and mouth were dry, continuously talking to him, hoping he could hear you thank him and whisper how much you loved him. Your body became very warm and sleepy even though the outside air felt like cold knives. Something told you it was safe to close your eyes. It was lying. That, you could tell. Your eyes slowly fell shut. You thought maybe you had seen the ice blue sliver of Kamazo’s irises staring back at you before they closed, but it was probably your imagination.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kamazo let out a final laugh as he faded in the cold snow. It was cruel. Just as he dared think he could have a family again, it was ripped from him.
Killer watched with a broad smile under his mask as Heat fixed you up to look more like a Kid Pirate. He was on the deck, grilling food for your welcome party. It seemed like it was yesterday that he found you in Wano. Killer sighed, full of happiness. He had Kid and he had you. He couldn't want for much else. When Heat was done, you bounded up to Killer.
"It's me, Kil." You did a spin so he could see you. "It's Sparrow." You waved to Heat, thanking him.
Killer leaned down to bump his helmet softly against your head, his version of a kiss. "Very cute."
"Don't lie to the lass. Sparrow looks more like a fuckin egg." Kid cackled from the helm.
"Fuck off, Kid!" Killer wrapped his arm around your shoulders, glancing down at the glow on your face and round belly eclipsing your shorts.
You rubbed your bump. "I want to name it Kam. Is that... okay?" You looked up at him, chewing your lip.
Kamazo stirred in the snow, startled by his dream. His eyes were open briefly, enough to see yours close next to him, before closing again, this time sending him into nightmares.

odd request but… sfw pyromaniac reader x Dabi from Mha?? Idk my sister told me about it and I thought it was interesting 🤷‍♀️
Dabi x Pyromaniac!Gn!Reader — (headcanons and oneshot)
♡ wc ; Hcs is 492, Oneshot is 1,012. Total is 1,504.
♢ synopsis ; pyromaniac x pyromaniac, it's just about as sweet as it can get, not that much (this is Dabi we're talking about), bittersweet fluff.
♤ a/n ; nothing of note
♧ warnings ; none
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Headcanons
I. To start, there would be a clear bond over fire, Dabi would find himself a bit drawn at the fact someone shares an obsession with flames, as it aligns with his own tendencies. Sucker might even find himself feeling a dark sensation or twisted camaraderie in their shared attraction.
II. You guys wouldn't always talk about fires though, not like you're gonna sit there and talk about the marveling flames swallowing everything it associates with, every time. however, these talks aren't out of the question, speaking of the shared destructive nature brings a thrill into their conversations.
llI. Despite their mutual interest in fire, Dabi would remain emotionally distant. While he might appreciate the connection, his traumatic past and the darkness of his goals would make him detached from forming a deep bond. He would only keep his partners at arm's length, emotionally speaking, not like he'd ever open up that way nonetheless.
lV. However, what he will do is encourage these inclinations if they align with his own goals of descent and vengeance. He could see their mutual love for fire as an opportunity to act together. You have fun, he enacts his ideals or lashes out at society, win-win.
V. Regardless of how well-versed you are in handling fire, if he feels that his partner's recklessness could jeopardize their safety or interfere with his own plans, he would step in to rein them back. whilst at times in a blunt and possibly harsh manner.
Tumblr media
Vl. Despite his otherwise often complex demeanor, Dabi might show a twisted form of support or understanding, especially when his partner struggles with their own battles or frustrations related to their pyromania. He would offer encouragement in his own blunt way, perhaps reminding them of their strength or how society never understood people like them, and not to care.
Vll. It would be far from conventional affection, but it would be genuine in its own right, coming from a place of shared pain and bitterness. Sometimes his ways are hard to identify, the best method you can tell that he cares is by the way he annihilates things that hurt you or have hurt you.
Vlll. He would encourage his partner to embrace their darker side and take pride in it, pushing them to pursue their goals just as relentlessly as he does. The league is the best at doing whatever they want, and you can be sure he'll expect you to adopt the same mindset, with complete disregard for any consequences.
IX. training with you is a must, not all the time sure, but every now and again to bring a little spark. Challenging each other and pushing one another, the charge of the rushing flames coursing through you while you have to think fast on your feet. The pure addictive adrenaline that you feel, you know he wouldn't actually hurt you like that, but it's so fun.
X. Destructive fire dates are a must, he wouldn't really out loud call it a date, and if he did he'd make it sound so laid back. Those dates where all you do is indulge your urges together are the best. The sounds of laughter and swooshes of the inferno are topped off with the two colored captivating sight, such a beautiful hue your flames make together.

Sometimes, your boyfriend stumbles upon abandoned buildings for the League to lay low in, and other times, he finds them by chance while scouting for new recruits. Whenever the two of you want some time alone, he brings you to these places—just the two of you, talking about anything and everything.
Today, you’re walking side by side through a dark withered forest, where the path has been so worn down by countless footsteps that it seems to be sinking into the earth, with tufts of grass and dirt poking back through. The sound of your footsteps, rhythmic and steady, has a comforting familiarity.
Right now, neither of you is speaking. It’s not uncommon for moments like this—sometimes, words aren’t necessary. After all the endless conversations Dabi has with the League, silence can be a welcome relief.
As you walk, a building comes into view, growing larger as you approach. It looks more than just abandoned—practically rotting before your eyes. You wonder if it’s even safe to step inside.
“That’s not a very reassuring look, are you sure it’s okay to go in there? It looks like I won't be able to come back out again,” you ask, throwing a quick glance at him.
“I thought the same,” he replies. “But after the others went in and came out alive, I’m sure it’s fine.”
"Whatever, if I feel any nausea I'll burn it, do the same if you feel that way too."
A small smile appeared on his face, and you shared your own, you both knew deep down the place was gonna burn at the end of the night anyways. It’s just what you do—you walk, talk, hang out in the buildings, and then set it ablaze together, your flames together as one devouring what’s left.
"That reminds me, I haven’t told you about the 'recruits' I had to deal with today. Tried to bring a few in, but they didn’t make the cut,” he says with a frustrated sigh, his tone turning into a low hum. “Feels like we’re hitting a wall. Nothing but dead ends lately."
You hum in response, already familiar with their recent struggles, endless complaints about the same issues, coming from both him and the others. The frustration is starting to wear them down. As you continue walking, the entrance of the building becomes clearer, and the halfway-opened door's rust on its edges becomes more visible with each step.
"..Their loss, I'm sure they know that now, their last moments were filled with regret I bet, should've gone along." you looked off to the side.
"yeah, but they'd only agree because they're afraid, better getting a no than figuring it out ourselves they aren't the real deal. Saves time." He manages to get in front to move the door for you, a loud creak yelped from the rotten door. When you went back to look at him you felt that feeling you were looking forward to all day, wildly infatuated.
a gentle smile appeared on your face as your eyes softened, walking past him and continuing the ongoing conversation, "I suppose you're right. Anyways you get to burn people so win-win." as you entered he followed, hearing a satisfied hum from him.
Dead center of the building there was a hole, like you used a circle cookie cuter and cut the middle of the building, through the floors and all. The moonlight was vibrant tonight, gently shining its light in the gap. You stepped into the center, gazing upward, while Dabi paused just before entering the light.
"Sometimes, the fire's radiance isn't the only light I look forward to. The moons can be nice too, second to fires of course."
"..great minds think alike or whatever that stupid line is, but yeaah," Dabi replies, sounding like he's mid-stretch— "The moon's light ain't so bad itself." he huffs out the last bit.
"Sometimes, I wonder how the moon, a cold, lifeless rock, can appear more beautiful than the sun, a blazing ball of fire. Flames are mesmerizing, yet the moon's glow seems to rival the sun's brilliance. Isn't it strange how the soft light of the moon, merely a reflection of the sun, can feel so captivating? Does that make sense?"
You feel yourself run out of breath for the rest of your sentence, and you can feel the stare of judgment coming from Dabi, despite not being able to see his face in the dark.
The silence grows thicker before it shrinks once more "Okay crazy, I get what you mean." he chuckles "I wouldn't say it as poetically as you did, but your right." You can hear it in his voice that he's tired, he probably doesn't wanna think too much right now and you're definitely heading the conversation to deeper thoughts territory. So you stop and ask a simpler question instead. "The moon is beautiful, isn't it?"
"I love you too." you hear his boots step closer, finally seeing him, blaze adorning his body. His smile, a mixture of a smirk, "didn't think you'd say something so corny to tell me you care."
You can feel a slight burn of embarrassment under your face but you brush it off with a puff. "Yeah, that was stupid whatever, I should've known that's not our style."
"It never was, but I’ll give you credit for giving something new a shot—now you know it ain't right." He forms fire on the palm of his hand, raising it up to you, filling the gap between you and him. "how about we do it right? This place is dull, could use some light."
You smile, "It sure does, but I think my flame color fits it better than yours." you challenge him. "Nah, mines better." he smiles.
You read him like a book and beat him to something he's done plenty of times before during these kinds of situations. Blasting fire at the wall, holding his gaze as the flames spread through the space.
"doesn't that look—"
"Wrong? yeah."
He answers as he repeats your actions, instead of the wall he sets the ground ablaze, roughly shoving a flare to the other half of the building behind him in flames. A lot more than yours, and quicker. You smiled.
"Let's see who wins this time. Before the colors share as one."
"You won't stand a chance. But let's see you try anyways."
